Hawai"i Artist Heather Brown creates main visual for 2017 Odaiba Hawai'i Festival

Aloha Everyone!

Stoked to announce that one of my projects in the studio the winter has finally become public! I created a new piece called Hula Girl for the 2017 Odaiba Hawai'i Festival held just outside Tokyo each year. This is the largest Hawaiian festival in Japan each year showcasing the beauty of Hula, Hawaiian music, art, and of course, great food!
This was my first ever attempt at painting a hula girl. For years i have been concentrating my creative efforts on the beauty of Hawaii art, tropical art, surf art but have always shied away from trying to depict a hula girl I was hesitant because of my fear of doing it wrong. To me, the art of hula, has always had me in absolute awe. From the beauty of the preparation that these beautiful artists go through, the years and years of training, not only on the actual movements but of the history and reasoning, to the storytelling through their movements on stage! This to me was what Hawai'i was when I was a little girl and to me, it still speaks HAWAI'I so loudly to me. I am happy that I finally made the attempt, and I am happy with the piece, I hope you enjoy it as well.

Here is the main visual for the 2017 Odaiba Hawai'i festival.

Hula Girl is now also available as a limited edition giclee on canvas, an open edition matted print on paper as well as a fun UV print on wood panel.

Heather Brown Art and Book Signing Tour Spring 2014 1st Week.

Aloha Everyone!

Wow!, first week of the tour has blown by and we are heading Kansai today to start the next leg!
It has been so much fun so far, I am looking forward to the upcoming shows and travelling!

Here are a bunch of photos to show our journey at this point this tour.

So we have been on a whirlwind of touring and meetings and creating art the past few months, Chris (the captain surfs) and I have been enjoying snow seasons in Telluride the past few years and have been working from our studio in the forrest up there this past winter (and getting in some snowboarding!) This was our yard at the studio on April 27, 2014!! We got like 16 inches of snow in the day or so before we left!
Our studio in Telluride Colorado on April 27, 2014
I love old cars and trucks and I thought this just made a cool picture.

Leaving the Rockies for the season and heading home…….well at least for a few hours we will be at home!

When we returned to Hawaii, we were only there for less than 2 days, so the great folks at Greenroom Gallery Hawaii put us in this great hotel room at the Sheraton Waikiki, I think the view was exactly what I needed to recharge and defrost from a couple of months in the snow. Best of all, we overlooked my favorite surf break in Waikiki and even got to get a fun surf for a few hours the next morning with the right tides. Hawaii No Ka Oi!
And then we landed here…… Heather Brown Waikiki Spring 2014
It's so fun to play tourist at home, especially when you get to soak in great Hawaiian music, hula and the warmth of the Island
I never get tired of Hawaiian Music and Hula
So many little guys would come up to our lanai to hang out, so I thought it would only be right to offer them some pupu's!
Meeting new friends and gaining inspiration in Waikiki
We had a great show at Greenroom Hawaii and early the next morning we were back on a plane heading to Tokyo. My first 3 days in a row in Tokyo were filled with shows and fun. The first show was to celebrate the 5 year Anniversary of The Heather Brown Gallery in Daikanyama, Shibuya, Tokyo Japan. I still can not believe it has been 5 years since we first opened. Our first actual space was in Aoyama and was about the size of a small 1 car garage, hidden on a side street (but so beautiful!!) and we would do some amazing shows there. Shortly after, we moved to our new location in Daikanyama, and it is my favorite gallery space I have ever been in. I hope you get to visit one day if you have not already!
Thank you to everyone who came out for the show, it was a blast! Thank you also to everyone whoa has been supporting The Heather Brown Galleries and my art for the past decade, I am overwhelmed and oh so HAPPY!! I hope to continue making art that brings smiles to faces and ALOHA to hearts around the World for the upcoming decades!

We have met so many special people in the past 10+ years of touring, and this is one of the stand outs. Shigeru has been to so many tours both in Japan and the USA and has documented my art career through pictures  (which he makes us special picture books from each event) We are not only so thankful for his great pictures and support, but he has become one of our many true friends that we have met along the way and we always look forward to meeting up! Mahalo for the beautiful flowers too!

It was so great to see so many snowboards selling from my new collaboration with Elan Snowboards!

The next day I did some interviews and held a signing at The Odaiba Hawaii Festival. I have created the art for this festival for the last 4 years now, and this one "Bird Ohana" is my favorite to date. It is always very surreal for me to see my art around like this. I wish I could explain the feeling, well I am so happy that the Odaiba Hawaii Festival connects with the feelings of my art and I am so happy to work with them. As a side note, they also sell stickers with this art with all the money going to Childrens charities!

I do have a limited edition of this piece on canvas that you can find here: http://www.heatherbrownart.com/collections/canvas-prints/products/bird-ohana
or at any galleries that carry my work!
The signing was so busy, there were over 400 people in line with books and art, so I had to go really quickly and did not have much time to talk, but thank you so much to everyone who came out and sorry I had to be so quick, but I wanted to make sure we could get to everyone.

and yes…… I eat Ramen every chance I get, it is so great and each place makes it a bit different. The Captain Surfs thinks that eventually we will make a "Ramen Tour Book" ha ha

Thanks for hanging in there, hope I didn't bore you too much with this, but this is what has happened the past week or so.. On to Kobe today where I will be doing a  show at WTW in Kobe today, May 9, 2014. Heather Brown Releases new Limited Edition Giclees from 2013 Japan Early Spring Tour

Aloha!

I hope that everyone is having a nice weekend so far! We returned from my first 2013 Spring Japan tour on Monday and unfortunately I got a bit sick from exhaustion so this week has mostly been spent in bed watching bad TV! But I am feeling like I am getting better now and hope to be creating lots of new art for my upcoming Japan tour and the 2013 Greenroom Festival soon!

I released a few new limited edition giclees on my Japan tour last week and they are now available through the galleries that represent my art worldwide as well as on my website.

This is the largest Hawaii Festival in the world with over 3/4 of a million people in attendance. I was honored to create the art again this year for the event which was themed "Aloha Together" and see it all over the Tokyo area on my last trip to Japan in support of the festival. Now the limited edition giclees and Hand Highlighted Artist Proofs are now available!

Heather Brown at the Odaiba Hawaii Festival in Japan

Aloha!

It is an early Saturday morning here on the North Shore of Oahu and the sun is just starting to creep up over the mountains and show us if the surf will be fun or not today! The anticipation!! We have been blessed the past few weeks with late season fun swells here so it has been nice to be getting back in the water after some time in the mountains.

I have also been so busy preparing for my first of two Spring Tours in Japan coming up. The first one starts later on this week!

On my first Spring 2013 Japan Tour I will be having 3 shows:

Saturday April 27, 2013 at the Odaiba Hawaii Festival
Sunday April 28, 2013 at the Osaka Takashimaya
and Monday April 29, 2013 we will be celebrating the 4 year anniversary of the Heather Brown Gallery in Daikanyama, Tokyo!!

Last year I was asked to create the art for the Odaiba Hawaii Festival and I was totally honored as this is the largest Hawaii festival in the world showcasing Hawaiian music, hula, art, food and culture to hundreds of thousands of people over a week period.

This year, I was thrilled to be asked once again to create the art for the festival as well as have a pop up gallery there for the week! Here is a peek at the poster that I created for the 2013 Odaiba Hawaii Festival "Aloha, Together" the piece is also being released as a limited edition giclee titled "Waikiki Holiday" that will be available at my Japan tour then everywhere on April 27, 2013.

To make it even better, one of the main sponsors of the Odaiba Hawaii Festival is Hawaiian Airlines and they so generously gave Chris and I First Class tickets on Hawaiian Airlines to get to the big event!
Big Big Mahalo to Hawaiian Airlines for helping to put on such a great event as well as get us there in style!

Mahalo to Hawaiian Airlines for getting tickets for Heather Brown to the 2013 Odaiba Hawaii Festival!
It is always really fun to me as an artist to be able to create art for events like this or larger scale installations as it still is so odd to me to see my art used in these ways and makes me almost cry each time I see it still! I still can not believe it!!

Odaiba Hawai'i Festival with Heather Brown

Aloha!

I had mentioned earlier that there was a lot going on, so here is another update that makes me feel really good!

A few months back I was contacted by the people that hold the largest Hawai'i Festival in the world in Odaiba Japan to create an original art piece for their posters and advertisements. I was extremely honored to say the least! We met at my gallery, The Heather Brown Gallery, in Daikanyama, Tokyo, Japan when I was out there for the anniversary show and we all hit it off and had a great connection so I agreed and we worked together on a great concept for the art. After the past very tumultuous year in Japan, the idea behind the festival this year was "Coming Together". We thought that a piece that showed the varying flowers, colors and textures of Hawai'i would signify this idea in a beautiful way.

Once I had finished the piece, I fell in love with it too because you can really see the meaning and feeling behind the piece so I released it as a new Limited Edition Giclee as well called "Flowers of Hawai'i"

The festival is running from April 28- May 6 in Odaiba Japan

I want to send out big Mahalo's to the coordinators of the event for picking me to be the ambassador for the art from Hawai'i!!

In addition to the festival art, since Toyota was one of the major sponsors of the event, I was asked if they could put my art on the New Prius that was just launched in Japan for a one off car that could be shown at the festival! Now I want one that looks like this!
