I hope everyone is having a great week so far, I am super busy preparing for this coming weekends Haleiwa Arts Festival on Saturday and SUnday July 20,21, 2013. I f you are on Island, I would love to see you there, I will be there all day on both days with a big booth near the food concessions and will be unveilling 4 new matted prints on sugar cane paper as well as many new originals!
As you may have seen, last weekend I helped in support of The Captains Skateboard Company, Hawaii Skateboard Company , at the Greenroom Gallery show in Waikiki. I pressed a very special limited edition linocut for the show and for my website. I named it "Skateboard Study #1"
I have always had a huge love and admiration of skateboarding and can get lost in a day of rolling around endlessly. I also have always loved the actual parts that make up skateboarding, the shapes, textures, sizes an aging process of the parts due to use. This is my first "study" of skateboarding parts and reveals the tail of the skateboard, the trucks and wheels. The print is limited to 4 color ways and only 10 prints in each color. You can also choose to have each print framed in one of our reclaimed wood frames that we make up here on the North Shore of Oahu!

Wow! What an action packed year so far 2013 is!! I just had my second show of the year this past Friday at The Greenroom Gallery in Waikiki. The show was entitled "Paper and Cotton" and the entire show was quite a departure from a lot of the other shows that I usually prepare. First off, I did not paint a single original for the show, I composed my show using all Limited Edition Linocuts and Silkscreen prints that I make 100% by hand here on the North Shore of Oahu in Hawai'i.
I also collaborated with High Tide Surf Art with the release of 5 new tee shirts to compliment the new art. The night was a huge success and such a fun time as well! I was greeted when we arrived by a hundred or so fans already waiting in line and a a couple of news crews from Hawaii and Japan.

"Barrel Girl" is a piece that I have had in my mind for some time now, I really like simple color ways that work well together and when I first mixed my base color for this piece, I knew I was in love with it.

As much as I love surfing, I love skateboarding! I have always loved it from when I was growing up and not surfing yet to this day whether it is rolling down the bike path on the North Shore or riding the walls of concrete skate bowls. This piece started out as an accident, when I was burning screens for another piece I made and was having trouble timing the sun (we have had a lot of rain lately) and I ruined 2 screens in a row I decided to start carving some linoleum and just waited to see what would come of it, immediately our studio Ohana all wanted one, so I guess it worked! Chris and I already have one hanging on our wall! I named the piece "Striped Socks"

"Coastal Breeze" is a piece I started working on one day I was travelling for shows and became a bit homesick for Hawai'i. I started to sketch in my sketchbook a bunch of other ideas, but I kept being brought back to the simplicity and greatness of what can be around every corner in Hawai'i.

I don't think at this point that it is any secret about how much I love to paint birds and last year I did a massive all bird linocut edition that I just loved. Well the newest addition to the Heather Brown Birds is this Limited Edition Linocut called "Surfy Birdie"

“Wave” is a new linocut from December 2011 that was created especially for the annual Surf Art show at the Wyland Gallery in Haleiwa on December 10, 2011. Each Wave is printed in 2 different colors giving them all their own unique personalities. They are all framed at my studio in reclaimed wood shadow boxes. Full dimension of frame is 9"x9". Edition of only 20 per color.

I have just released for sale my limited edition BIRD Linocuts that were part of my "Characters" show at The Heather Brown Gallery in Tokyo, Japan on November 12, 2011.
Each individual linocut is approx. 6"x6" and mounted on black foam core and framed in an 8"x8" reclaimed redwood shadow box.
Each individual bird was printed in 4 different colors and there are 4 different birds.
The entire edition 1/4 sold out at the show, but now the rest of the editions are available for sale individually, in pairs plus or even the entire set of 16 edition number 4/4.
Individually each framed linocut is $250 but you can get the entire set of 16 for only $3500.
They are all ready to ship and if you order by December 15, you should have them in time for Christmas!
