Heather Brown Releases New Green with Aloha Wave Art Tote Bag

In 2009 my husband Chris and I started Green with Aloha, a line of durable and useable goods meant to help people get away from the normal habits of very common disposable items (mostly plastic). We started with 1 tote bag design and 1 water bottle design. Since 2009 we have made 6 different tote bag designs, 4 water bottles and 3 different re-usable travel coffee mugs.
Well today, I am so HAPPY to unveil our newest tote bag!
The Green With Aloha Wave Tote is here!!
Made of 100% recycled cotton and printed with water based ink in the USA! double sided prints with reinforced straps for years of heavy use. FYI: We are STILL using our first bags from 2009 for all of our grocery and market shopping! A bit stained and washed many many times over the years, but still looking nice and holding up great!
Please abandon the plastic bags, get your self some reusable shopping bags and stay Green with ALOHA!

Matted Print Frames are back up in the Website!!

Aloha Everyone!

I am so happy to announce that we have gotten our matted print frames back up on the website and are ready to take your orders and ship worldwide!

We make all of the matted print frames right here on the North Shore of Oahu with our great team up in the hills. Each frame is handmade utilizing as much recycled and reclaimed materials as we can by real people who make their livings on Oahu's Famous Seven Mile Miracle.

For the present selection of frames, we standardized the coloring a bit so you would have a much better idea of exactly what you were ordering. We still offer our "Artist Choice" one of a kind colorings and styles as well. With the 6 new selections that we have just added, this is the perfect compliment to either my art or your family photos or you favorite artists prints.

Heather Brown Original Art Available!

Aloha!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! We had a great time last night at The 11th Annual John Kelly Awards put on by The Surfrider Foundation of Oahu. Great music, food, people and a great place to get some holiday shopping done with their extensive silent auctions! Mahalo to Surfrider and everyone who contributed to such a nice evening in Waimea Valley!

I have just placed some originals on my website for sale. We have been doing a major studio and workshop clean up and some fun things always pop up when you do this (after 3 years of not! ha ha!!)

There is always a lot of interest in commercial art, the art that makes up the world we see each and every day, the art that sells products, ideas or just looks fun. These pieces are all pieces that I have done for projects over the past years. Clicking on any of the pictures below will take you directly to my website with details on each piece.

New Heather Brown Original Art!

Aloha!

I just added a few originals to my website finally! Sorry I have neglected adding originals to my website for so long because of my show schedule, but I put a few up there that I really love and hope you do too!

For my past few shows, Chris has been making me reclaimed wood "canvasses" to paint on. They are not panels as they are all small cutoffs from wood that we use for larger frames. SInce we have amassed such a large amount of scrap, Chris started putting them together for other projects and one day I started to paint on one and absolutely fell in love with the feel of them with my art, so my last few shows I painted a bunch and people seem to really dig them as well. Chris also made some really simple reclaimed wood box framing for them as well. This wood is also scrap wood from larger projects. All of the wood was reclaimed for the larger projects then re-used again (I swear we have the least trash of any business out there!)

For the art, so many different palettes work with this medium and I can really tailor each original to fit smoothly with the washed colors on the panels, so it is a really fun way to paint for me, a bit looser than the normal canvas. I still paint on canvas 80%+ of the time, but as an artist, I believe you need to peak your nose into other mediums, feels, tones, etc and explore the big big world of art.

Clicking on any of the images will take you directly to my website where you can see purchasing options when still available.

Hawaii Artist Heather Brown and Green With Aloha Reclaimed Wood Frames from the North Shore of Oahu

Aloha Everyone!

I have just finally added better pictures and organization to our frames section on our website!
If you have not seen the frames that we make at our studio on the North Shore of Oahu, I will explain a little.

A few years ago, me and my husband Chris started a small company called "Green with Aloha". We basically started this because we would see little things that we knew we could make more re-usable or from using reclaimed and recycled materials. We started out very small as these were not business decisions for us, these were lifestyle decisions for us personally and for the people closest to us and we wanted to start showing that we can all make small changes that can have BIG effects worldwide. Our first product was the "Green with Aloha" Diamond Head tote bag that was printed using all water based inks on a recycled cotton bag made here in the USA. The bag itself has proven to be almost bomb proof and we have been using our same set of bags since the very first printing run almost 4 years ago now! We moved on to other production products like out re-usable beverage containers and glasses to more specific and custom furniture products and framing options for my art.

Chris has been a lifetime woodworker/boatbuilder/furniture maker, wood artist, etc so when we would receive emails and requests for framing, Chris would be happy to oblige, and go to his woodshop and create the most beautiful frames I have ever seen using nothing but reclaimed and recycled woods that he would pick up when they would tear homes down on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii and Waikiki. Well, within months, it seemed that Chris would be working on frames from dawn to way past dusk and the frames became a huge hit. We would collaborate on frame designs and color choices going to second hand lumber resources and craigslist to find second hand water based paints that people didn;t want any more. We would spend hours like chemists in the lab mixing our very own unique colors from all the paint we would pick up and we would layer the paints how we would see fit to best compliment my art. Fast forward a couple of years and Green with Aloha has begun to walk on it's own legs and we are producing more frames than ever while keeping what some call "rubbish" out of the landfills.

Recently, the Green with Aloha team has tripled in size (3 of us now!!) due to demand. Our great friend  Alex has been sourcing all of our wood (which is now about 90% old pallet wood, you know the wood used to transport all the goods we use in Hawaii from the mainland USA and other parts of the world. This wood is stacked all over our Islands and will all end up in landfills that we don't even have!!) In the past year, we estimate that we have saved over 7,000 pallets from ending up in the trash!! Alex also has taken our designs and puts together the "blanks" that we then take and make pretty! Once the frame blank is made, it goes to our paint and sand studio where Chris and our other great friend Mark come up with the great colors and textures that you see in the final product. Each and every frame is made 100% by hand in Hawaii by real people (no sweat shops, poorly paid labor or bad working conditions here!!)  We finalize the product with high quality uv resistent plexiglass and recycled metal hanging hardware. We are so proud of our product and we hope you love them and see them as a great way to compliment your Heather Brown art or anything else needing a unique 1 of a kind frame.

We just recently started doing some carvings and branding's on some of our frames too, be sure to check them all out on my website www.HeatherBrownArt.com under "Iphone cases, Frames, Etc"

Check out some of the pictures below taken by Keri Cooper, clicking on any of the pictures will take you directly to my website where you can see more of the frames in this collection.

Heather Brown Surf Art Releases 4 New Matted Prints

Good Morning! and What a Beautiful morning it is on The North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii today!!

I am so happy to announce that I have just release 4 new matted prints to my line and they are now available on my website
All of my matted prints available in multiple sizes are printed on 100% Sugar Cane paper which is a byproduct of the sugar industry, this pulp would usually be burned or thrown in landfills, the clever paper company we work with has taken this pulp and turned it into beautiful paper for printing art on and as always with my company we try and stay Green With Aloha!

All of my matted prints are hand signed on the mat and all of them are available framed with reclaimed wood frames that are built right here at my studio on the North Shore!

The first one is from the original art that I created this past year for the 2011 Honolulu Surf Film Festival held at the Honolulu Academy of Arts Doris Duke Theatre.
Clicking on the picture below will take you directly to the website for purchase.

Wahine He'e Nalu was the second piece in my Surf Girl series and the limited edition giclees sold out in less than 90 days which at the time made this my fastest selling edition! I am so happy with how the matted print came out, the colors and textures are so rich and bold.

New Green With Aloha Aluminum Water Bottles by Heather Brown

Aloha Everyone!

We are having a very very rainy windy grey week here on The North Shore of Oahu but we needed the water and our gardens are so happy right now, just waiting for some sun!

A few years ago Chris and I started a small company to raise awareness and show people that little small steps in your daily life can really help out in a global way to keep our environment cleaner and more beautiful for everyone to enjoy. We named the company Green With Aloha and we were so happy that people really gravitated towards it especially the press to spread the word even further.
The initial products came as the everyday necessity of having re-usable bags for the grocery store or any shopping. They were such a big hit, that unfortunately for a while we could not focus on any new products. They are still a main portion of our everyday life and business and we try to come out with new designs and colors regularly to brighten up your Green With Aloha Experience.

This week we launched another product, one that I would say is as essential if not even more essential to keeping our Earth beautiful for generations to come, the Re-usable beverage container.
We produced two designs of 20 Ounce re-usable aluminum water bottles under the Green With Aloha label and they came out looking great! We have been product testing the prototypes for the past month or so and we love them. Each bottle comes with 2 separate tops that can be used, a sports bottle type top with lid and a screw off top with carabiner. This to us added to the value of an already great product and made it a great way to send the little ones to school with a re-usable bottle that was virtually spill proof or even for us using them on the mountains with mittens on and being able to hydrate Plastic Free!

The bottles are currently available on my website and will soon be available at select retailers worldwide. I urge you to urge any local businesses around your area to carry them as well as this would be even greater to lessen our carbon footprint of shipping.

I hope you enjoy the bottles and strive to stop using single use plastics as much as you can!

Living Green With Aloha with Hawai'i Surf Artist Heather Brown

Aloha Everyone!

Wow! I still can't believe it is already August! July was like a blink of an eye for me.

So far August has been great, catching up on some commissioned pieces, enjoying some beach time and I was surprised by 3 new family member that my husband Chris brought home to our house the other day!
Introducing:
TanTan-men, Mochi and Poke! They have taken to their new home very well and our two older hens have been really nice sharing their home.
Heather Brown's Chicks!
Brian has been really interested in them, he even saved tantan-men the other day when she escaped through a small hole in the coop, he rounded her up and barked for us to come help.
Brian being a good friend to the new chicks
It is so nice having the chickens around, natural chemical free pest control, daily organic eggs and great organic fertilizer for our fruit trees!

We have had so much fun welcoming the new chickies into our home but we also had to take care of some work on the land. We did some research and found out we could use 100% recycled tire chips as mulch around our plants. This mulch allows all of the water to get to the plant roots and since it is rubber it will not grow fungus, mold, etc and will last for years and years! Sure better than tire fires and land fills!
