New Bamboo Framed Wood Panel Surf Art Prints by Heather Brown

Aloha Everyone!

I am excited to let you know that we are now making my limited release wood panel prints with sustainable bamboo frames too! We are still making our traditional wood panel prints but we wanted to add something else, a different type of look and feel from the other pieces.

For years I was painting on reclaimed wood panels that my husband would make for me and I always loved the organic feel of the pieces, the way the wood grain wood peak out in places and add to the overall feel of the piece. I think that is why I have been so in love with  the look of my art printed on wood too. With the prints, Chris and I go through each one individually and decide on what panels will go with certain images the best, the grain patterns and structure. We have worked tirelessly on our color management and opaque qualities of the inks so we can maintain the fine art quality of the pieces while also showcasing the natural beauty of the wood in each individual piece. One of my other favorite things about the process is that each and every surf art print on wood maintains it own uniqueness making each one a one of a kind piece.

"Free Surf" is a piece I did a few years back when I was living at Off the Wall ( a popular surf spot on the north shore of Oahu) One of those houses through the barrel was mine!

I love listening to Bob Marley when I am painting the day away, it makes me happy, calm and inspired. I feel that I have made a good few pieces with working titles "3 Little Birds" and this is one from a few years back. I always felt these birds knew exactly what Bob was singing about.

When I was attending the University of Hawai'i at Manoa for my Bachelors of Fine Arts program I worked in a small aquarium on Kalakaua Ave (its no longer there unfortunately) and my job was to feed the fish and clean the tank using scuba equipment. I always loved that job so much because every day I could spend a couple of hours underwater in this calm and serene world surrounded by all these friendly and very domesticated fish. They were so inspiring to me that I did my graduation BFA show centered around fish prints that I had made with all semi-fictional and really funny looking fish. Once in a while, I still spend a week or so working on fish pieces and these yellow tangs are two of my favorites!

When I am on tour around the World, the leading question I get is always "Why do you love Hawai'i so much" They say that a picture is worth a thousand words and I say that this piece below kind of screams my answer!

Each year I take part in a great group art show, The Annual Wyland Gallery Haleiwa Surf Art Show, which happens during the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawai'i. A few years back I painted this piece based on an old photo of Billy Hamilton, perhaps one of the most stylish surfers ever, surfing at Pupukea. This is one of the real "surf art" pieces that I still love to look at after all the years that have passed since I have painted it. It still gives me the feeling of pure stoke to go out and surf and reminds me of how lucky we are to have so many fun waves to play in on the North Shore

More funny fish! This original was done for a really fun show I did at Mu'umu'u Heaven on Oahu's east side in Kailua. The show was called "Life at Sea Level" and is still one of my favorite shows I have ever done.

"Happy Wave" Sometimes the most simple paintings give me the most joy. I created Happy Wave for a special customer who was dealing with cancer treatment at the time and the family wanted to have a small piece of art to put above the hospital bed that would bring smiles after numerous painful treatments. I was so happy to hear that it brought so many smiles in the hospital and even happier to hear that they are doing great now and living a full life!

I love painting these tonal pieces, they remind me so much of early morning surf checks and walks on the beach. You can almost feel the coolness of the air and water with the colors of the paint.

My new Spring 2015 line for Rip Curl is now out and available! This is a special line because after 6 years designing for Rip Curl, this will be my last season with them. I am so grateful for the years I have gotten to work with them and so happy that they were always open minded with my ideas and desires to be more environmentally correct in the production of my pieces. Heather Brown Surf Art New Releases for the 2014 Holidays!

Aloha Everyone!

Up early and getting prepared for my upcoming shows back on Oahu, Hawaii starting with the Annual Surf Art Show at The WYland Gallery in Haleiwa this coming Saturday December 13, 2014 from 4-7 pm! Then the Wyland Waikiki show the following evening of December 14, 2014. And wrapping up the year with our record release party for "Into the Wild with Bird Party" at The Greenroom Gallery on December 16, 2014!

We just released a few new items and collaboration projects on my website, and you still have time to get them for holiday delivery both Internationally and Domestically!

The first item is a new hand pulled 2 color silkscreen called Surf Trip framed in reclaimed barn wood.

The Next items are my new Limited Release Skateboard Series with The Captain Surfs and Hawaii Skateboard Company! Over the past few years of working with Hawaii Skateboard Company we have put out a few different types of boards and models, always working towards a goal like this! These boards are full color reproductions of some of my original art. These are 8 ply canadian maple decks that are ready to roll (just add trucks and wheels!) Each board is limited to no more than 100 pieces total worldwide. While these boards are beautiful pieces of art, they really are made to get out there and roll! 

For the first edition we made three new decks as seen below. Main image is bottom of the deck image with all 3 boards having the same wave design/Hawaii Skateboard Company top graphic.

The first in the series is the iconic image of Diamond Head. Every visitor to Waikiki snaps at least 1 photo of our natural landmark and it is one of the most recognized natural monuments in the world. I still find myself gazing out at Diamond Head every time I am in town surfing at Pop's or Queens!

The second piece in the edition is one of my oldest (and favorite) published pieces called Outer Reef. Since I first painted the original of Outer Reef, I always imagined it on a skateboard. This is the one I set up for myself!

And rounding out the series, here is the Surf Girl Limited Release Surf Art Skateboard! People who surf all have their moments when their skin tingles and the STOKE level goes through the roof. For me, it always starts just before my feet hit the water, looking out and seeing the beautiful waves rolling towards shore and embracing the beauty that surrounds us! This piece has that feel to me, and I currently have the first production piece of the Surf Girl Skateboard hanging in my studio

And then...... We have finally had the official release of "Into the Wild with Bird Party" ! A new fun and unique collaboration between myself and The Captain Surfs. 

"Into the Wild with Bird Party" is a Limited Edition (each hand numbered) 7" record box set  of only 500 worldwide!

The was by far one of the most fun projects I have ever been a part of. From start to finish we took over 16 months to complete this and just the other day Chris and I were hand numbering and putting all the pieces of this set together on our studio floor.

Happy to announce that we have made a limited release of a new re-usable porcelain coffee tumbler! I love the fact that surf art can be with you all through your day starting from the morning time! As a surf artist in Hawaii, I am often rushing out of my house at first light (or before) to tray and find some fun waves before a day in the studio. While I have had many re-usable mugs before, I love the feel of the double insulated porcelain cup and the soft silicone lid with this tumbler. Anuenue is Hawaiian for Rainbow, and after living in Hawai'i for mod tot my adult life, I still never tire of seeing daily rainbows! When I am on the road for months at a time, I often look at all the rainbow pictures I have taken on my IPhone to bring a little part of home with me. Now I can wear it on my head and feel the good vibes all day long!

"Kamane Sunset" was painted when we were living on the beach at Off the Wall, a popular surf spot along Oahu's famed North Shore. We had a tiny little house, but a lanai that gave us this view every evening after a post work surf. I always love to look at Kamane Tree's and bask in their shade on a beautiful Hawaiian beach.

"Peaceful Bird" is a piece that I loved painting and exploring softer pastels with. I always look up at the birds sitting in the trees around the Islands and think if they know how lucky they have it! This little girl sits peacefully in her branch letting the world go by.

"Tropical Hawaii" is the view that is in my brain almost every time I sit down at my easel each morning! This is the idea that was in my mind 15 years ago when I moved to the Islands and the vision I see when I drive around the more rural areas of the Hawaiian Islands.

 "Pink Ginger" is one of my older pieces but has been so loved for so long by so many people and myself. The flowers of Hawai'i are so beautiful standing alone, but when you see them grouped with other flowers and the clear blue Pacific Ocean, it is like a natural frame for natural beauty.
