About the Artist

Growing up in a family of artists and artisans in Southern California, Heather Brown found her passions in both art and nature at a very early age. Brown honed her artistic skills as a student at the University of Hawai‘i, focusing primarily on the “lost arts” of intaglio printmaking, silkscreen printing, linocuts, woodcuts and etchings.

Coined the “Godmother of Modern Surf Art” by the Los Angeles Times, Brown’s art has become a benchmark in the global surf art market, finding its way into collector’s homes around the world. She has created art for The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, Jack Johnson’s Kōkua Festival, The Surfrider Foundation and many more, as well as opening up Heather Brown Galleries in Tokyo and Osaka. She continues to work with numerous nonprofits around the world.

Weekend Slide by Heather Brown Surf Art now available!

Happy ALOHA Friday everyone!

I am so happy to release my newest Limited Edition on canvas piece, Weekend Slide!
I worked on painting the original for Weekend Slide this winter when we were having a lot of cloudy, rainy and cold days. While these days are hard to motivate, when you would make it down to the beach to get a surf you would find the most beautiful colors everywhere you looked. The wash of colors and how everything just seemed to melt into each other, the constant drips of water from tree branches, gutters, roofs, surfboards. The feeling that the Island was thankful for the abundance of rain.
I started working with canvases just to see how the colors would layer in different ways, using different techniques of wet blending, dry blending, scraping blending and some other homemade secrets. I love the mood and feel of these paint transitions and how it really converges with tropical beach art. Surfing and surf art to me are all about the feeling, and if you surf or love to spend time around the beaches, you know these tones and the feeling very well. To many of us, we obviously LOVE the bright sunny days where everything is postcard perfect, but for us who truly live "Life at Sea Level" we also relish days like these.

Surfing Art from Waikiki for your ALOHA Friday!

Happy ALOHA Friday!!

Tonight is the full harvest moon so it is an extra special way to kickoff your weekend of fun! The full moon over Waikiki reminds me of one of the pieces I created entitled "Midnight in Waikiki" Two easy going birds enjoying the sound of the surf, views of the iconic Duke Kahanamoku Statue, the bustling tourists all while Diamond Head fills their background sky. If I could, this is how I would spend my evening tonite watching the harvest moon.

So stoked for another GREENROOM FESTIVAL this year! I have been doing the famous surf art and music festival since 2008 and every year it is one of the most fun stops on my schedule!

I created some new originals that will be at my booth this weekend that have not been on tour with me the past 2 weeks that i made special for the event. Lahaina Shore's by Hawai'i Surf Artist Heather Brown

Peaceful Sunday mornings in the winter time always bring my memories back to my time on Maui working on dive boats and whale watching cruises.

The mix of baby blue skies peppered with wispy clouds hanging over the turquoise seas is enough to bring your stress levels down immediately.

Add in some fun rolling surf, the scents of tropical flowers and some beautiful whales playing offshore and you transcend into full on bliss.

I created this piece "Lahaina Shores" a few years back after going back to Maui from Oahu and re-remembering the beauty and serenity of Maui's whale season.
