Hawaii tropical artist Heather Brown releases Love and Sakura

Aloha Everyone!

Been a very busy spring so far with one trip to Japan done and 2 more between now and June on the way!
I had a very busy "off season" from shows in my studio working on some really great projects and some new published originals.

The first published piece from my last Japan tour is called Love and Sakura. My first gallery in Japan, the Heather Brown Surf Art Gallery in Daikanyama, Tokyo, opened on my birthday March 27, 2009. During that trip to Japan, I was first introduced the beauty of Sakura. I lucked out on that trip and the day after I landed, the Sakura were in full bloom in the Tokyo! For those of you who do not know much about Sakura (cherry blossoms) and the importance of them in Japan, I encourage you to do some research on it, as the history of it is beautiful. The full blossom days do not last long, so it is hard to really schedule a trip to see them, so in the past 8 years, I have never been able to see them like that again, and I go out each year for the Heather Brown Gallery anniversary, but usually miss them by a few days or more.
This year, we had planned a short tour in Osaka and were very hopeful to get to see the beauty of the Sakura right outside of The Heather Brown Hawaii Art Gallery in Osaka. And you know what?? We got to see them! It is so nice when the blooms happen, it is almost like the entire Country knows and people all congregate in the parks and it becomes an impromptu festival. So much fun and so absolutely beautiful!
For this tour, I was asked to paint a new piece depicting the beauty of the Sakura. In the past I have painted a few sakura pieces. One with Sakura trees along a beautiful west side beach. One with the sakura fronting the ever majestic Mt Fuji. And now Love and Sakura. there is nothing in life more beautiful than LOVE, except a day with your love under the sakura blooms in a peaceful rowboat meandering the day away.

Love and Sakura has been released as a limited edition giclee on canvas (signed and numbered), an open edition matted print on sugarcane paper and a UV print on a wood panel that gives each piece its own uniqueness.

Aloha and Happy Monday!

Just leaving San Diego from a fun filled 4 days of surf, shows and great people!

This was my first trip back to Southern California in over 2-3 years so I was nervous and excited! I am always nervous to see if people will come out to the shows and if the art I donate will sell and make the necessary money for the charities I believe in and after such a long hiatus between California shows, I was not sure what would happen.

I was so pleasantly surprised when we rolled up to my first show at Bliss 101 to see how many people had come out to see my show there with friend and fellow artist Susan Wickstand Roche! We had such a fun night that went till after 11 pm because so many people had come out! Mahalo nui loa to the great and attentive staff at Bliss 101 in Encinitas and to everyone who came out and waited on lines. I had a great time meeting so many new people as well as getting to see lots of old friends from my time growing up in Southern California.

The next couple of days were spent participating in events for the 2014 UCSD Moore's Cancer Research Center 21st annual Luau and Legends of Surfing Invitational
Some of you may know that I was honored to be asked to paint the main art creative for this years event that went on the posters, tees, etc and I donated the original "La Jolla Sunset" for the main auction as well in efforts to raise money for much needed cancer research.
Well the events were all so fun and I was able to "fan out" on lots of the surfers that I have looked up in our great lifestyle. Below are some random pictures from the events.
I am also so happy to report that my art raised almost $20,000 (an event record) with all money going directly to cancer research!!

 I have looked through old books and magazines for years and always see the beautiful during images of Denny Aaberg and it was great to meet him in person!

It was so nice to meet Guy Takayama in person. I have always been a fan of Donald's and Raymond Takayama. Guy is filled with ALOHA and was so nice!

 Ira Opper has arguably done more for surf and action sports films than anyone out there.

 As a female surfer, I have always looked up to a few key females in the sport and lifestyle we live and Lisa Anderson is arguably the most prolific in modern times.

Always great seeing other friends and artists as our paths cross in different oceanic locales around the world! Wade Koniakowsky is one of our favorites and I am equally stoked to have my art in his gallery in Solana Beach!

 Below in the board that was shaped by San Diego Shaping Icon Hank Warner with my art from the event on the nose. Happy to say that the winning bid for this board was $3,000 with all proceeds going directly to cancer research!

SO now I make the drive from San Diego to our Telluride Colorado studio to get hard at work for my upcoming Japan and Australia tour coning up this October!
I will be back on Oahu and doing shows through the Triple Crown season with a show at Mu'umu'u Heaven in Kailua on November 13, 2014. I have create dthe main art creative for the Surfrider Foundation's annual John Kelly Awards on November 15, 2014 ( I will be in attendance and have some pieces for the auctions there)
Then on December 13, 2014 I will be taking part in the annual group surf art show at The Wyland Gallery in Haleiwa!
The Captain Surfs and I are also working on one more show that we hope to be showing on Oahu this December if we can make it happen in time! I will keep you posted on all the details!

"Calm Waters" depicts the perfect day at Laniakea Beach. Looking back into the cove from the beaches down towards Haleiwa Town on a peaceful summer day.

"Pinballs, Waimea" takes another look at another sacred place we have on the North Shore in an entirely different season. So many paintings, photo's, etc have been done surrounding Waimea Bay on the North Shore of Oahu and with great reason, this is one of the most beautiful places on Earth! I wanted to capture a bit of a different view for this piece that centered on the inside wave at Waimea called Pinballs. This piece will also be used as the main visual for the 10th Annual Surfrider Foundation  John Kelly Awrds being held at Waimea Valley this November 2014. Please check out the Surfrider Foundation and the John Kelly Awards, a super fun event, great music, great people and the perfect silent auctions to start your holiday shopping out right, through local artisans!

"Turquoise Sea" is a new piece that is inspired by the early mornings that me and The Captain hit the beach and the colors of the ocean just prior to the sunrise. I love the deep hues of blue glistening under the moon and playing by themselves before the morning surf crew gets on them.

I also released a brand new exclusive limited edition series with The Wyland Gallery in Haleiwa and Waikiki called "Under The Kamane Tree"
Years ago when we were living in a small little shack at Off The Wall, our house wash;t much of anything, but our lanai was right on the beach and was shaded by the most beautiful old Kamane Tree. We would spend hours and hours under that tree, painting, napping and just watching the world go by.
This piece is only available pin a very limited edition by calling the Wyland Gallery in Waikiki or Haleiwa or of course going in there in person! I will be showing at The Wyland Gallery in Waikiki on July 26, 2014 also so you can pick one up and get it dedicated!

I will be having a book signing at The Greenroom Gallery at The Sheraton Hotel in Waikiki this week on Thursday July 17, 2014 from 6-9 pm! We are releasing the second pressing of "The Art of Heather Brown" books and selling the two new originals from the new book covers at the event!

Next Weekend I will be a participating artist at the annual Haleiwa Arts Festival and sharing a booth with The Captain Surfs all day Saturday and SUnday July 19 & 20, 2014!

Putting the last finishing touches on new art for my July Oahu shows! My mind keeps wandering back to this piece "Deep Blue" one of my favorite pieces to date. Just looking at it gives me the urge to grab my board and jump in the beautiful blue water! July 19 and 20, 2014 I will be one of the participating artists at this years annual Haleiwa Arts Festival at the Haleiwa Beach Park on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii. This by far is my favorite event each year as it is really how I got my start and first pouch into the world of a working artist. I have done this festival now for 10 years or so and love the fun causal outside environment and getting to see so many friends and family from around the Islands and fans and collectors that come from around the world! I have some really fun new art made especially for the festival and will also be debuting a new series of older pieces that never were published (only sold as originals) that I really love that are printed on custom wooden planks that The Captain makes!
Speaking of The Captain, We will be sharing a booth this year near the food concessions, so come say  ALOHA and check out his cool art too!

Heather Brown Art Square Matted Prints Now Available!

Happy ALOHA Friday Everyone!

I hope that everyone is having a great day so far or just waking up to a day that will be great!!

I am happy to announce that we have just released 4 new matted prints to my current line of available images! Even better, for the first time we have produced square prints from some of my most beloved images!

The new Heather Brown Art square prints that are being released today are:

"Kamane Sunset" was painted when we were living on the beach at Off the Wall, a popular surf spot along Oahu's famed North Shore. We had a tiny little house, but a lanai that gave us this view every evening after a post work surf. I always love to look at Kamane Tree's and bask in their shade on a beautiful Hawaiian beach.

"Peaceful Bird" is a piece that I loved painting and exploring softer pastels with. I always look up at the birds sitting in the trees around the Islands and think if they know how lucky they have it! This little girl sits peacefully in her branch letting the world go by.

"Tropical Hawaii" is the view that is in my brain almost every time I sit down at my easel each morning! This is the idea that was in my mind 15 years ago when I moved to the Islands and the vision I see when I drive around the more rural areas of the Hawaiian Islands.

 "Pink Ginger" is one of my older pieces but has been so loved for so long by so many people and myself. The flowers of Hawai'i are so beautiful standing alone, but when you see them grouped with other flowers and the clear blue Pacific Ocean, it is like a natural frame for natural beauty.
