Hawaii Artist Heather Brown Releases New Silkscreen!

Aloha!

Rainy Rainy couple days up here on the North Shore, but perfect weather for getting more work done!
I started a new multi colored silkscreen about 10 days ago, and I am so stoked that they have come out great!
When I was in Art School at The University of Hawai'i at Manoa, I concentrated on printmaking and that was where my style ended up coming out of. In printmaking, especially some of the older techniques, you generally see really bold striking lines. I loved printmaking so much but when I left school and all of the great equipment and supplies that were available, it became harder to practice these mediums on my dive master budget! That is when my style really came to be and I just started to paint how I would make prints, shading, color work and thousands of painting hours later, my style has remained fairly consistent as my love for printmaking is still as strong today as it ever has been.

I am currently working on art for 3 shows this summer on Oahu, Japan shows in September, Australia shows in October, then back to Hawai'i for a few shows through the Triple Crown Of Surfing season, so I am definitely busy painting to say the least! My husband Chris suggested for me to dedicate 1 day each week to creating art in different styles, mediums, etc and it has been so fun! Soon I will show you some of the paintings that have come from these days! Sometimes when I am waiting on certain paint layers to dry, etc, I work on other small projects, well this small project turned into a big project in being a full color silkscreen (all hand pulled in my studio on The North Shore of Oahu).

Well, the results came out great and I am so happy to release this new Limited Edition Silkscreen print titled "Vintage Surf" The edition came out to 40 pieces. The art itself measures about 11"x14" and is matted with a full dimension of 16"x20"
Chris then took the prints and finished off some beautiful frames that our friend and Green With Aloha employee, Alex Cox had made from recycled pallets (pallets are taking over our beautiful Island state, so we have begun to use them and give them a beautiful second life!) These frames are each unique and work with the prints perfectly, some go more with the greens, some with the browns, etc. Each one is detailed to fit perfectly with the motion and colors of the print.

For fun and my little habit of Instagram, I documented some of the steps of creating the new piece, below is a little photo story of the creation of "Vintage Surf"

Hawaii Artist Heather Brown Announces Summer 2012 Art Shows

Aloha Everyone!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend! We actually spent the day yesterday at Waimea Bay and had such a nice relaxing day swimming and floating around in the sun, it felt so nice to take the day off and enjoy Hawai'i and Oahu's North Shore in the summertime!

I wanted to announce my schedule for this summer, I have been busy painting and getting ready for 3 upcoming shows here on Oahu.

The first is one of my favorites every year and I always look forward to participating. This years Haleiwa Arts Festival will be on July 21 and 22, 2012 at the Haleiwa Beach Park in Haleiwa on the north shore of Oahu. This is a great event put on by great hardworking people each year and each year is so much fun to meet fellow artists from around Hawai'i and have two full days to meet fans and collectors old and new alike.

Heather Brown will be one of the Artists attending the 15th Annual Haleiwa Arts Festival on The North Shore of Oahu in Hawai'i

The following Saturday, July 28, 2012, I will be having a show at The Wyland Gallery in Haleiwa at The North Shore Marketplace. The Wyland Gallery in Haleiwa has been one of my longest supporters and I love going into the gallery and seeing how they display my artwork, they are actually one of the few locations where you can generally see my whole portfolio of limited edition pieces in one place. I always feel so honored to be an artist in The Wyland Galleries and so happy to be featured in the Wyland Gallery in Haleiwa close to home.

Hawai'i Artist Heather Brown Celebrates International Surfing Day with Her New Collaboration Surfboard Model with Two Crows Surfboards

Aloha!

Today, June 20, 2012 is International Surfing Day! What a great day to observe!!
Many of you know that on the North Shore of Oahu in Hawai'i we usually do not have much for waves this time of the year, but this June has blessed us with heaps of surf and great times!
Today, Chris and I went down to one of our favorite logging spots (great place to ride longboards) and scored a few hours of fun surf with very minimal crowds and the sun even greeted us to make for a perfect session.

I took out my new Sea Siren Surfboard model which is a collaboration project with me ( Heather Brown) and The guys at Two Crows Surfboards (Carl and Nick) also from here on the North Shore.
I have been working with Carl the shaper over the past year to pinpoint the perfect shape board and once we found the shape, Nick and I worked out the art. Nick is a successful artist not only in surfboard glassing, but also in totally unique fiberglass art that Chris and I have also added to our art collection.

The "Sea Siren" is an 8'11" all around longboard and it is available in a limited edition of only 100 (each one is signed and numbered under the glass)
The first 5 have sold and the next 5 will be available the end of July. The price of the first 25 is $2500 which includes a special one of a kind 50/50 fin as well as a daytripper board bag to keep it safe. After the first 25 the price will increase $250 for each 10 made, so get yours quick!
The fin a 9" custom shape by Island Fin Design (pictured below) is green on one side with the Heather Brown Sea Siren Logo and black on the other side with the Two Crows Logo. Each surfboard does come with one of these fins as mentioned, also, there are fins available to purchase separately, you can click on the image below to be taken directly to my website where you can see purchasing details.
You can also pick up a Heather Brown X Two Crows Sea Siren model in Honolulu at The Surf Garage and soon in Maryland at Malibu's Surf Shop. Ask your local shop to carry these great boards!

The Board is 100% hand Shaped here in Hawai'i and hand glassed with all of the artwork being done using tinted and colored resins (this is not a cheap painting on foam or a laminate) The colors are vibrant and beautiful, this is a lost art in the mass produced surfboard market. Both the top and bottom deck of the board have the art and special laminate that I created for the model and all of the lines match up perfectly.

Contest for Small Business Grant for Heather Brown Art

Aloha Everyone!

I just signed up for a chance to get a small business grant from Chase and Living Social.
It is such a great program that is looking to help small successful businesses continue to be more successful and sustainable!

As many might know, in the past few years we have worked really hard to make Heather Brown Art a more environmentally conscious company as well as a more sustainable business here on The North Shore of Oahu in Hawai'i. We have hired two North Shore residents in the past 18 months and continue to work hard donating art, time and money to great local organizations like The Kokua Foundation, The Surfrider Foundation, The Wyland Foundation and many smaller programs like The Hawai'i Surf Tea, Access Surf, local public schools on Oahu and even a great local soccer team going to the Championships in Colorado.

We are looking forward to receiving this grant money so that we can purchase some much needed new equipment and a new work space so we can continue to pursue more sustainable business practices and source out and use even more environmentally responsible local products in our work.

Heather Brown Surf Art New Limited Edition Giclee Releases Sring 2012

Aloha!

I hope that everyone had a great weekend! It was a nice one here on the North Shore, we even had some out of season swell up here!!

At this years Greenroom Festival in Yokohama Japan, I made a large installation work consisting of multiple smaller paintings that could all stand on their own or when put together, could be a piece consisting of 7 individual pieces making 1 scene of an idealistic Waikiki Beach and Surf Day.

Rainbow Birds is a piece that has been swirling around in my head for a while. I love to paint birds and have been featured in a few different publications for the birds that I create, but I usually just have them as singles. The Rainbow Birds seemed to fit perfectly with the piece I had also created a rainbow with skateboards that perched over this entire installation.
Rainbow Birds Original is sold, but I have just released the piece as a series of limited edition giclees and hand highlighted artist proofs.

"Fun in The Sun" to me exemplifies the Waikiki Beach summer experience, lots of sun, surf and the patchwork of seaside umbrellas lining the beaches.
Fun in The Sun Original is sold, but I have just released the piece as a series of limited edition giclees and hand highlighted artist proofs.

"Ohana Surf" depicts the perfect Hawaiian Surfing day, bringing the whole family (friends are family too!) to the beach for a day of relaxation and sliding on waves!
The "Ohana Surf" Original is sold, but I have just released the piece as a series of limited edition giclees and hand highlighted artist proofs.

"Daydream Surf" is just that, the perfect wave rolling to shore alone in all of it's majesty (a rare site to see a wave pass through the Waikiki waters unridden) with just the beautiful fragrance of the summers Plumeria's filling the air.
The "Daydream Surf" Original is sold, but I have just released the piece as a series of limited edition giclees and hand highlighted artist proofs.

"Enjoying the View" reminds me of my first few dates with my husband Chris where we would go and surf Pop's in Waikiki and relax on the seawall after the long walk through Waikiki before paddling out. As people who surf, we are always so lucky that watching our sport is as fun as participating.
"Enjoying The View" was just released as a series of limited edition giclees and hand highlighted artist proofs.

"Yellow Plumerias" is what summertime means to me here on The North Shore of Oahu and all around Hawai'i. This is the season where the trees get thick with their rubbery looking green leaves and beautifully fragrant flowers. While there are many beautiful colors of plumerias, I am always partial to the delicate yellows and their poignant fragrance.

Greenroom Festival 2012 with Heather Brown

Aloha!

This year, the finale of my Spring Tour in Japan was the 2012 Greenroom Festival in Yokohama Japan. I have participated in the Greenroom Festival now for the past 4 years and it is one of the events I look forward to each year and would never want to miss! The Greenroom Festival is a 2 day indoor/outdoor festival dedicated to the environment, the beach lifestyle, surfing, surf movies, music and art from around the world.

This year was especially great because the festival just keeps getting better and better each year and we got to see many old artist friends and meet some new ones as well as see some great live music including one of my favorite newer bands, The Drums!

This year I was also asked to create the original art for the girls tee shirt for the Greenroom Festival with Cher Shore from Japan! The original art for the design is now available for sale on my website, if you click on the image below, it will take you right there for purchase details.

This year, I wanted to create something a bit different, so I created a full scene that I titled "Let's Go Surf"
It is a full scene consisting of multiple pieces that depict an idealistic Waikiki Beach/Surf day complete with a rainbow band consisting of 7 different original skateboards! I was so stoked on how the whole piece came together and it also tied in with the debut of my new collaboration surfboard model that is now available as a limited edition of only 100 with Two Crows Surfboards also from the North Shore of Oahu in Hawai'i.

As always, The Greenroom Festival in 2012 did not disapoint and it was nothing but fun, we even got to sit backstage and watch The Drums, Donovan Frankenreiter and Slightly Stoopid to name a few.

After a great 2 weeks that flew by, we returned back to the North Shore to sunny beautiful weather (no waves unfortunately) but a couple of great days on the beach to unwind and relax a bit with the dogs!
