Hawaii Surf Art Show "Paper and Cotton" with Heather Brown and The Greenroom Galery in Waikiki

Aloha!

Wow! What an action packed year so far 2013 is!! I just had my second show of the year this past Friday at The Greenroom Gallery in Waikiki. The show was entitled "Paper and Cotton" and the entire show was quite a departure from a lot of the other shows that I usually prepare. First off, I did not paint a single original for the show, I composed my show using all Limited Edition Linocuts and Silkscreen prints that I make 100% by hand here on the North Shore of Oahu in Hawai'i.
I also collaborated with High Tide Surf Art with the release of 5 new tee shirts to compliment the new art. The night was a huge success and such a fun time as well! I was greeted when we arrived by a hundred or so fans already waiting in line and a a couple of news crews from Hawaii and Japan.

You can check out the link to the interviews here:

You can still go by The Greenroom gallery and check out the new pieces from the show and they are also now available online at www.HeatherBrownArt.com

All Silkscreens and Linocuts below are available framed in 100% reclaimed wood frames made at The Heather Brown Art Studio on The North Shore of Oahu in Hawai'i. Heather has designed and picked frame colors to match the moods and feelings of the pieces. Clicking on any picture below will take you directly to the Heather Brown Official website for purchasing options with shipping available worldwide!

"Barrel Girl" is a piece that I have had in my mind for some time now, I really like simple color ways that work well together and when I first mixed my base color for this piece, I knew I was in love with it.

As much as I love surfing, I love skateboarding! I have always loved it from when I was growing up and not surfing yet to this day whether it is rolling down the bike path on the North Shore or riding the walls of concrete skate bowls. This piece started out as an accident, when I was burning screens for another piece I made and was having trouble timing the sun (we have had a lot of rain lately) and I ruined 2 screens in a row I decided to start carving some linoleum and just waited to see what would come of it, immediately our studio Ohana all wanted one, so I guess it worked! Chris and I already have one hanging on our wall! I named the piece "Striped Socks"

"Coastal Breeze" is a piece I started working on one day I was travelling for shows and became a bit homesick for Hawai'i. I started to sketch in my sketchbook a bunch of other ideas, but I kept being brought back to the simplicity and greatness of what can be around every corner in Hawai'i.

I don't think at this point that it is any secret about how much I love to paint birds and last year I did a massive all bird linocut edition that I just loved. Well the newest addition to the Heather Brown Birds is this Limited Edition Linocut called "Surfy Birdie"

Heather Brown Wyland Waikiki January 2013 Show Re-Cap

Aloha!

Thank you to everyone who came out to my show the other night and braved the rain and wind!
It was so much fun and I was able to meet so many new people and share stories about art, Hawai'i, surfing and fun times.
A HUGE Mahalo to the Wyland Gallery in Waikiki for hosting such a great event and supporting my art for the past 8+years!

Line of people waiting to meet Hawaii Surf Artist Heather Brown at the Wyland Gallery in Waikiki January 2013

Through the years, I have painted a few exclusive edition pieces for the Wyland Galleries. This piece is by far my favorite to date. The Duke statue on the beach near Canoes and Queens might just be the most photographed object in Hawaii )other than Diamond Head) and just about everyone takes a picture with the statue, hangs a lei on him or at least admires one of Hawai'i's greatest figures. I know that Chris and I hang with the Duke every time we have a day in Waikiki and the statue brings such great feelings and the surrounding area is the birth of surfing and the culture that we love so much.
I hope that "Waikiki Duke" can bring you the same feelings of peace, happiness and good will.
The edition size is only 50 with 5 Hand Highlighted Artist Proofs plus the original which are all available exclusively through the Wyland Galleries in Haleiwa, Waikiki, Lahaina, Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe. If you are interested in picking up one of these very rare pieces, please call the Wyland Gallery directly and they will be happy to help you out while the edition is still available

Hawaii Artist Heather Brown Releases 7 New Matted Prints!

Aloha!

First off, I want to wish each and every one of you a Very Happy New Year and wishing you all the best in 2013!! The past year was somewhat of a blur with a lot of traveling for shows around the world and I was blessed to meet so many great people along the way that have supported my art. Thank You Thank You Thank You! Not only for the past year of support, but many of you for many years now, I truly appreciate each and every one of you and your support drives me to keep creating art in hopes of making more smiles around the world!!

I am busy preparing for a show at The Wyland Waikiki Gallery this Friday, January 4 from 6-9 PM!
I will be releasing a very special limited edition exclusive to the Wyland Galleries that I am so excited about, I can;t wait to show it for the first time there!! I hope to see you if you are around.

On more big news!! I have just released 7 new matted prints to my collection and they are all available on their own or framed in one of our reclaimed pallet wood frames that we design and build right here at my studio on the North Shore of Oahu with the great help of my Husband Chris, our great friend and builder Alex Cox and our newest helper Mark! We are so proud that we have kept well over 10,000 pallets from going into the landfills in the past 2 years by making beautiful frames out of them.

Each one of my matted prints are printed on 100% post production sugar cane paper (instead of tossing and burning the sugar cane fiber after the sugar is taken, they produce the pulp to make this great environmentally correct and extremely sustainable paper, this method is also bleach free!)
They are all matted and hand signed by me on the matt.

Most are available in 2 sizes, some in 3 and all available framed!

Hawaii Artist Heather Brown Releases New Limited Edition Giclees

Aloha Everyone!
I hope that everyone is having a great weekend and enjoying the Holiday Season!
It has been a busy one here so far with shows, interviews, painting and getting orders shipped out around the World. Mahalo to everyone for your continued support of my art, it always makes me so happy to hear from you and the stories about my art in your collections bringing smiles to your faces. I continue to make art each day with the hopes that it can bring more happiness into everyones lives.

I have just released some new Limited Edition Giclee and Artist Proof Editions through the past few shows and they are now available in galleries and online on my website as well.

In October I went down to Bali to work with the Rip Curl design teams from around the world to being working on my Heather Brown for Rip Curl Summer 2013 Collection. This piece "Bali Tranquility" was very much inspired by my time in Bali with the beauty of the waves, landscape and amazing temples with so much hand carved art.

"Gem of the Sea" is a piece that is so near and dear to me as it reminds me of those perfect off season surf days here on the North Shore of Oahu in Hawaii. Sunny, beautiful conditions and space to move around with your thoughts, friends and family.

Hawaii Surf Artist Heather Brown's "Gem of the Sea"

"Girls Day" is a piece that is also completely inspired by the fun days spent here in Hawaii. It is always so nice to see all the females out in the lineup these days and to see the female pros just ripping at all the spots lining our 7 mile miracle here on the North Shore

"Girls Day" by Surf Artist Heather Brown
Jetty Surf was inspired by an East Coast surf trip a couple years ago. In Hawaii we don't surf too  many Jetty's but it seemed as if so many spots that we went and surfed out East were somewhat centered around Jetty's, rock groins and piers. I really liked the way that these features both natural and man made framed in some of these fun little surf spots and the scenes that would be created around a certain Jetty would all be so unique.

"Jetty Surf" by Hawaii Surf Artist Heather Brown

My husband Chris worked at this great surf shop right on the beach on Ocean City, MD for years growing up and after I got the chance to go see the shop and meet the amzing family and friends that own and run the shop, I was so inspired to create a piece centered around this great spot. Lee and the Malibu's gang have created such a cool spot and culture around a shop that believes in what they sell and sell the best surf good available anywhere. You can check them out in person on 8th st and the beach in Ocean City Md, or online at www.Malibus.com
This art was also featured on the CD cover for the "Best of Kapena" CD released this year

Tropical Hawaii is the image that is in my mind pretty much every hour of every day. This is what I see when I think Hawaii.

"Tropical Hawaii" by Haleiwa Surf Artist Heather Brown

"Ulu Tree" was an original commissioned by a non profit organization here in Hawaii that is about sustainability.
The Ulu Tree in Hawaii stand proud and beautiful and full of substinence. It was the food that was brought over to Hawaii by the ancient Polynesians when they sailed to Hawaii. Ulu fruit is also known as breadfruit. The piece is centered around this giant of substinence and shows the Hawaiian Ahupua'a stretching from the Ocean to the Mountain.
