Aloha!

We have been enjoying a nice relaxing week in Steamboat Springs Colorado for the last leg of our US Mainland Tour/Vacation.
We arrived in Steamboat just as 50 inches of fresh new snow fell in 48 hours time! It was the largest accumulation in 48 hours on record! We have had such great luck on this trip with snow and weather considering how poor of an early season it was around the states for snow and we have been extremely appreciative and taking full advantage of our great luck.
Chest high powder riding in wide open bowls and through the beautiful tree runs that Steamboat is so well known for was such a great experience. Unfortunately, 2 days in to Steamboat I came down with a pretty nasty bug so I have been a bit sidelined, but it is still beautiful to look out the windows, drink hot tea and see snow all around and the cute little chipmunks and birds frolicking in the snow covered trees.
Chris and I also celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary on the 22nd filled with cold medicine, hot tea and bad tv!
Soon back off to home on the North Shore of Oahu in Hawai'i to prepare for my upcoming show at The Heather Brown Gallery in Daikanyama, Tokyo, Japan which will take place the weekend of the 25th of March to celebrate the gallery's 3 year Anniversary! I am so happy and proud that my gallery has been a success for the past 3 years and we now even have added some guest artists into the mix to showcase different views of surf art to the country of Japan.

Aloha!

Chris and I just arrived in Steamboat Springs, Colorado a couple days ago and celebrated our 1 Year Wedding Anniversary in powder up to our chests thanks to over 50 inches of snow in about 48 hours!
Just before we came to Steamboat, we made a short business trip to Washington DC and were able to take some time wandering the National Gallery of Art. We had a great time and the weather was nice for this time of year. It was great spending a few hours exploring some of the most famous Art ever created and seeing it right in front of your eyes. It was extremely inspiring to say the least. Well, the snow is great, the skies are blue, it's time to strap on my snowboard and get a few afternoon runs in.

Aloha Everyone and Happy Valentines Day!

I have been having a great time in Colorado with Chris for the past week. This past week we have been in the BEAUTIFUL area of Telluride and have been blessed with over 20 inches of fresh snow since we have been here! The area is so nice and the people warm and friendly. We have been having a great time with 3 full on powder days in a row!
It has been about 15 years since I have been on a snowboard, and I have been missing out, it has been so fun and cruising down 4.5 mile runs surrounded by nothing but natural beauty has been extremely inspiring. Here are a few pictures from the past week.

As some of you might already know, I have been working with Rip Curl WOrldwide for about 4 years now after starting off with them as their Artist Of The Search in Rip Curl Europe. Well now I have my own line called "Rip Curl by Heather Brown" with them and during the Triple Crown Season this year they came out for design meetings and to shoot this interview. I am always so stoked to team up with them each season and the line keeps getting better and better. Here is the video interview.

3 Pieces from Sold Out Editions now Available from Heather Brown

I hope everyone had a great weekend and is off to start a happy week!

I have just release 3 limited edition giclees to my website from editions that have been sold out for months-years at this point. All 3 will have profits from the proceeds going directly to different charities that I support like The Wyland Foundation, The Kokua Foundation and Surfrider Foundation.

The first one is Surf Girl. Surf Girl could be credited as the pice that really got my career going by instantly connecting with so many people. This was my first edition to ever sell through the edition of 100 and the 10 Artist Proofs, so it remains very special to me to this day and will always be a reminder to me of where my career got it's commercial start. I recently received back a Surf Girl that was hanging in an International exhibition for the past couple of years. I destroyed that actual piece as it was pretty damaged from years travelling and being fondled by viewers around the world. I re-printed the edition number which is # 24/100 as a 30"x40" piece. It is now available on my website with profits from the proceeds going to help out a longtime favorite organization that I support, The Surfrider Foundation!

The second offering is "Lahaina Shore's" Hand Highlighted Artist Proof #10/10. This is a 32"x48" AP Giclee that has been hanging on my home's walls in my Private collection since it was published. We have enjoyed it so much and with new editions coming out we would love to share the happiness with a new owner as well as the profits from the proceeds with The Wyland Foundation to help protect and preserve the World's oceans, waterways and marine life.

And last but certainly not least, I am going to offer up from my private collection my #100/100 "Wahine He'e Nalu" I have had this piece hanging in my studio since the edition was first published and it always gives me so much inspiration and reminds me that sometimes you just need to sit down and look, listen and smell the ocean all around us, the True Fountain of Youth! #100/100 limited edition giclee of Wahine He'e Nalu is a 32"x40" giclee, there is a slight bump from the inner wood of the stretched bar in the upper right corner (on the side of the piece, not the face) this does not effect the art, the image or anything, just nature happening with the wood and I feel that I want to sell it as it has been hanging in my studio as sometimes imperfections are the most perfect part! Profits from the proceeds of this sale will go directly to the Kokua Foundation which is leading the charge in environmental education in Hawaii's schools and communities.

Wow, what a day here on Oahu! HUGE Third Reef Pipeline breaking and the Volcom Pipe Contest being called off for the day because of the dangerous conditions! Now the crowd is all out at Waimea watching some Big Wave Riding!

I sent a bunch of art over to The Greenflash Gallery in Cardiff, CA for the "La Sirena" Exhibition in late 2010 and the two pieces that I took back a while back are now for sale. As many of you might have known, on January 2, 2012 I had a solo show at The Wyland Gallery in Waikiki. The show was a huge success and so much fun to spend time with long time friends, collectors and new faces as well!
At the show I introduced two new published originals, "Hawai'i Hale" and "Anuenue"
These images are now available as limited edition giclees (edition of only 100 worldwide) as well as in the Artist Proof Edition (only 10, all hand highlighted by me)

Hawai'i Hale (Hawaiian Home) has been a painting that has been circulating in my head for a few years now, I had once done a painting that had a small beach house in it, but it wasn't much of the focus. My dream, along with many others, has always been to live in a nice simple beach house in Hawai'i on a semi-secluded beach with a great fun wave right outside my doorstep. This painting really gives me the feeling of that dream every time I look at it and brings a huge smile to my face as I hope it does to you as well. The original was a 30x40 and sold at the show. The giclees and AP's are now available on my website as well as at the Fine Galleries Worldwide that support my art.

Anuenue (Hawaiian for Rainbow) was an original originally created for Rip Curl for the Rip Curl by Heather Brown line that I have been designing for a few years now. Rip Curl has become such a huge part of my Ohana (family) in the past years and each time I get to meet with them and discuss ideas on the beach on the North Shore of Oahu, ideas just flow like the waves hitting the sand. Anuenue started as a real light sketch and idea just for the design team, but as I got into it, I quickly realized that I wanted to make this into a full painting and as more and more interviewers and visitors to my studio saw it and commented on how much they loved it, it affirmed to me that this was a piece to be published into my portfolio as a new limited edition giclee (only 100 worldwide) as well as an Artist Proof edition of only 10 hand highlighted pieces. The original sold at the show. I hope you enjoy it as much as we all have because you can not look at a rainbow with a frown!

On Saturday, I officially release 4 new limited edition giclees to my collection at the Annual Surf Art Show held at the Wyland Gallery in Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oahu in the beautiful Hawaiian Islands.
Here is a peek at the new releases, please note that while they are now available for ordering, only the John Kelly Awards art giclees are available to ship by Christmas at this point. The other 3 will be about 4-5 weeks.

"Surf Stroll" is the latest release in the popular series started with "Surf Girl" 5 years ago. The original is available at The Wyland Gallery in Haleiwa.

As some of you may know, I have been working with Rip Curl for about 4 years now, first as the Rip Curl Artist of the Search and since then as the artist behind the Rip Curl by Heather Brown line available at Rip Curl stores worldwide as well as surf shops, etc that sell Rip Curl products. This piece, the "Hawai'i Map" was created for use on different Rip Curl products for 2013. This was a really fun project because I can remember through the years always seeing these types of maps that artists created of Hawai'i, so it was fun to create on in my style. Hawai'i No Ka Oi!

Two pf my favorite pieces that I have created and released have been "Glassy Green" and "Juicy Sunset". For a few weeks prior to the Surf Art show at The Wyland Gallery, I had been experimenting with combining elements of the 2 pieces into 1 new piece, and one day this is what struck me as the one to release as it was a different color palette than I normally work with and I really feel that it captures that special time up here on The North Shore after many people leave the beach for the day and the ocean starts to clear and the sun is left to play alone in the ocean for the remaining minutes of the day.
The original for "Haleiwa Sunset" is sold, but giclees and Artist Proofs are still available.

This is the piece that I created for the 2011 John Kelly Awards presented by The Surfrider Foundation.
The original is available at The Wyland Gallery in Haleiwa. I have been creating art for the Surfrider FOundation for a few years now and I get excited each year to create something new for this great event.
This piece was actually inspired by an earlier piece created by John Kelly's father, also John Kelly from the 1930's art that he had created for the shipping companies in the Islands.

I have just released for sale my limited edition BIRD Linocuts that were part of my "Characters" show at The Heather Brown Gallery in Tokyo, Japan on November 12, 2011.
Each individual linocut is approx. 6"x6" and mounted on black foam core and framed in an 8"x8" reclaimed redwood shadow box.
Each individual bird was printed in 4 different colors and there are 4 different birds.
The entire edition 1/4 sold out at the show, but now the rest of the editions are available for sale individually, in pairs plus or even the entire set of 16 edition number 4/4.
Individually each framed linocut is $250 but you can get the entire set of 16 for only $3500.
They are all ready to ship and if you order by December 15, you should have them in time for Christmas!

Aloha Everyone!

It really is starting to feel like winter on the North Shore of Oahu, we were walking the bike path on Kaua'i a few short days ago in the hot sun and now it has been cold, rainy, windy and we have even had some great massive surf here to grace the Sunset Beach leg of the Van's Triple Crown of Surfing.

Last night we put up Christmas lights and our little tree (a Norfolk Pine that we have had in a pot for the past 3 Christmas's, and it keeps getting bigger and bigger! one day it will be a permanent Christmas tree in our yard) and as we were getting more into the Holiday spirit I decided that I was going to offer up the original art that I created for this years Christmas card up for sale with proceeds going to help families around the USA that are facing tough times this holiday season.

The original is a 8"x11" acrylic on water color paper and will come matted with a white matt board.

Limited Edition "Character's" Show Tee's Now Available!

I hope everybody is having a great weekend and everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We had a great time with great friends and family on Kaua'i with beautiful fall Hawiian weather and lots of great food.

I just released the remaining limited edition tee's from my show in Tokyo on November 12. These are the "Characters" tees and they are water based silkscreened on super soft power washed 100% cotton tees. The tee's are sized casual unisex, so girls size down and men size up. These tee's, along with all of our printed products are all done right here on Oahu by talented and hardworking people and companies in our community. To finish them off, I hand pulled some silkscreen hang tags on recycled paper that all have their limited edition #'s. This is a limited edition tee shirt with only 100 being produced in total, so supplies are very limited. Mahalo for checking them out!

Aloha! Hope everyone is off to a great start for their weekend!

I just added two new originals to my website that are now available.

The first one is the original art for my new limited edition publication "Secret Falls" This is the first time I have published a waterfall piece and I think that I have only actually done maybe 3 other original waterfall pieces up to now. I really love how this one came out and the 10"x30" size is so great to really feel the movement of the water. The limited edition of 100 is already about 50% sold out on this piece and all of the hand highlighted artist proofs are sold out.

The second original now available will also be published into limited edition giclees and artist proofs being released on December 10, 2011 at The Annual Surf Art show at The WYlland Gallery in Haleiwa.
As many of you probably know, I have been a long time supporter of The Surfrider Foundation and have worked with them on many great projects both on a local level in Hawai'i and other locales as well as on a National level. For the past 3 years I have created the poster art for the annual John Kelly Environmental Achievement Awards, one of my favorite events to support and attend here in Hawai'i.
This new original is the art created for the awards posters and booklets. I took inspiration on this piece from an original work of the late John Kelly's father, also John Kelly, who created a lot of the beautiful art for Matson and other cruise liners in the 40's and 50's in Hawai'i. I am really stoked on how it came out and it is a bit different than most of the subject matter I usually paint. The original acrylic on canvas in 18"x24".

Fun in San Francisco with Heather Brown, Rip Curl, Green Day and Kelly Slater!

What a whirlwind week! Chris and I left here at 3:30 am on Tuesday to catch our flight to San Francisco and get in some of the action of day 1 of the Rip Curl "Somewhere in San Francisco" Search contest to watch some of the worlds best surfers compete for the first time in Northern California. As many of you know, I have been working with Rip Curl for about 4 years now so it was great to go out there and connect with my Rip Curl Family and enjoy a few days in the City by the Bay.

We arrived to absolutely beautiful weather, sunny, clear, warm and....waves! Some fun swell brought out some great competition as we watched day 1 and 2 down at the beach. We even were right there to watch Kelly Slater win his 11th world title (well kind of win, maybe in hi next heat, see ASP blunders) It was such an exciting day not only with the great surfers from around the world, but being there to see North Shore friends and locals Pancho Sullivan, John John Florence and Freddy P all doing there thing in San Fran!

The first night we were treated to a very cool surprise show put on by Surfrider Foundation and Rip Curl featuring Ty Segall, Kut U Up and very special surprise guests, Green Day!

The second day, the contest was on and conditions were perfect, we had a great perspective from the scaffolding and waters edge.

Kelly Slater after winning his heat and due to an ASP blunder, thinking that he just won the 2011 World Title, which will be his 11th! Sure he will clinch it in his next heat, congrats Kelly!!

Thursday they held the Grom Search and the weather was cold, rainy and windy!! With our thin blood from the Islands, we decided it was a work day, but in between, we checked out SF MOMA and a great gallery holding a really cool exhibition inspired by Wes Anderson's movies called "Bad Dads". The show will be up for a few more weeks at the Spoke Art Gallery in San Francisco. I love Wes Anderson movies so much and Life Aquatic seems to be the only movie I could watch on repeat, so this was a must see show for me.

Then we walked a mile to get to the best pizza in the USA and hadthe award winning Coal Fired Margheritta Pizza at Tony's in North Beach! MMMMmmmmmm!

Aloha and Happy Friday!

A few months ago I received a sweet email from the great people at Neos Productions based out of Mililani, Hawai'i asking if I would be interested in submitting some art work for their new Island Ukulele Compilation CD. I agreed for a few reasons, but mostly because of the people at Neos productions as well as the fact that this is a local Hawai'i business that is working hard to share Aloha around the world and their hard working business and social ethics have helped them through these tough economic years and they are still producing great Hawaiian music sampler and compilation CD's to spread the Hawaiian culture (past and present) around the world.
Yesterday evening, just as Chris and I were winding down from the day (of fun surf and work) we received a surprise treat in the mail! The CD's just hot off the press! Check them out below, they came out beautiful, they sound beautiful and I am so stoked to be a part of this great project.

Wow! Can you believe it is already October! and October 4th at that!! Time sure does fly by.

I am really excited about a new show that I have been working on that will be a bit of a departure from my past shows. I have themed the entire show and many smaller original pieces will encompass one major installation style piece (each original will be available separately as well) I have been in the planing stages of this show for quite some time and in the past few weeks I have been starting to paint all the little pieces to this big pie!
The show will be held at Mu'umu'u Heaven in Kailua, Oahu, Hawai'i on October 20, 2011 from 5:30pm
There will be food, drinks, great people and of course a lot of new ART!

Happy Saturday, at least I think it is Saturday!! Just returned home from a great trip to Venice Beach for my first ever California solo show held at MoNo-LA on Abbot Kinney Blvd in Venice. First off, huge Mahalo's to the great folks at MoNo-LA, Power SUpprt USA and Tru Protection for putting on an amazing event with well over 400 plus attendees! Great food, signature drinks, new art and.... the debut of my collection with Power Support USA and Tru protection IPhone Cases!

I hope everyone had a great weekend and that you were able to take advantage of the 3 day holiday if you are in the US! I have been busy getting ready for two upcoming shows this month on The Big Island of Hawai'i on September 16 at The Wyland Gallery in Kona and on September 22 at Mono in Venice Beach, CA.

With the last hurricane that went through the East Coast there were many people and communities in the north Atlantic coast that went weeks without electricity and had major floodings. This was especially hard on the thousands of families that have been homeless because of the current economic situation in our country as well as other matters. With these types of tragedies, the children are almost always hit the hardest, so I will be donating the proceeds of the sale of this original 16x20 acrylic on canvas to the charity

Aloha!

Sorry for the long delay in posting, we were just on the East Coast for some gallery and store visits as well as a signing event at Malibu's Surf Shop in Ocean City Md. I have never spent much time on the East Coast except for a small time in inland North Carolina, so it was really cool to see different coastal towns and take part in local cuisines and area past times.

We spent time on the Gulf coast of Florida and had the most amazing food all week courtesy of Chris' Mom. We spend days on the beach at the Gulf and strolling through small towns looking into galleries and museums.

We went to the Annapolis/DC area and ate MD Blue crabs! This was my first experience and I am hooked! We went to this great hidden place on the water, Jimmy Cantler's Inn and had so much fun picking crabs. We spent a day on the Chesapeake Bay boating and got to see Annapolis by water and then ate at Hemmingway's right on the bay, it was such a cool experience taking a boat to dinner!

We ended our trip in Ocean City MD with a signing event at Malibu's Surf Shop right on the beach at 8th street. We had so much fun there, people watching, strolling the boardwalk and eating more local favorite foods!

Now we are back in Hawai'i and were lucky enough to catch a rare little North Shore surf this morning to welcome us back. I love to travel but I really love coming home!

A Proper Introduction

Aloha,

I never properly introduced our new buddy and addition to our family, he is a Tasmanian Labradoodle and his name is Hobie. He is just about 5 months old now and he is fitting in with the family great and having a really fun time in the yard and on the beach. We got him on the first day of the Hawaiian Islands Vintage Surf Auction so his first encounter in Hawai'i was around a lot of people and a lot of beautiful vintage surfboards. We actually bid and won a 1965 Hobie No.5 Hawai'i gun shaped by Dick Brewer with all proceeds going to The Surfing Heritage Foundation and figured that Hobie would be a great name for him.
The other two dogs have been great with him, but our youngest, Brian, seems to be playing the role of "mom" to Hobie and doing a great job!

Wow! I still can't believe it is already August! July was like a blink of an eye for me.

So far August has been great, catching up on some commissioned pieces, enjoying some beach time and I was surprised by 3 new family member that my husband Chris brought home to our house the other day!
Introducing:
TanTan-men, Mochi and Poke! They have taken to their new home very well and our two older hens have been really nice sharing their home.

Brian has been really interested in them, he even saved tantan-men the other day when she escaped through a small hole in the coop, he rounded her up and barked for us to come help.

It is so nice having the chickens around, natural chemical free pest control, daily organic eggs and great organic fertilizer for our fruit trees!

We have had so much fun welcoming the new chickies into our home but we also had to take care of some work on the land. We did some research and found out we could use 100% recycled tire chips as mulch around our plants. This mulch allows all of the water to get to the plant roots and since it is rubber it will not grow fungus, mold, etc and will last for years and years! Sure better than tire fires and land fills!

Closing Night of the 2011 Honolulu Surf Film Festival

Last night we made it down to town for the closing ceremonies of the 2011 Honolulu Surf Film Festival at the Doris Duke Theatre in the Honolulu Academy of Arts. I was honored to be asked a few months ago to create the poster art for the festival. Here it is

We were so lucky to see the screening of Bud Browne's "Surfing in the 50's" with a great introduction and Q and A by Buzzy Trent's daughter. The movie was excellent and really showed the type of athleticism and dedication it took to ride the giant surf in Hawai'i and around the world back in a time of no wetsuits, 80 pound boards and boat trips to Hawai'i from California!

I was also honored to have met Ricky Grigg and see Gerry Lopez again!

Wow! What a weekend at the 2011 Hawaiian Islands Vintage Surf Auction that Randy Rarrick holds every other year (unfortunately I think that this was the last one!?) It was a great event and so nice to see so many good old friends, artists, surfboard shapers and of course just plain legends!
This year we had a small art gallery up as well with 10 different surf artists from around the country and it was a really nice extra to go along with the auction.

I even had the chance to meet the real life Gidget!

This past weekend at the 2011 Haleiwa Arts Festival, I released 2 new matted prints to the collection!

2011 Haleiwa Arts Festival with Heather Brown

Aloha!

Wow! What a great beautiful and busy weekend at this years Haleiwa Arts Festival!
This was my 5th year exhibiting at the Haleiwa Arts Festival and as always it was a great time.
I was able to meet so many first time collectors as well as see many familiar faces from around the world that came by to see the festival and all of the great art that came together in Haleiwa for the weekend.
Now I am busy getting ready for my display at the Hawaiian Islands Vintage Surf Auction coming up this Friday and Saturday at the Blaisedale Arena in Honolulu. Friday is from 12-6 pm and Saturday is from 12-3 pm. This will be a gallery exhibit going on in conjunction with the surf auction, art will be available for purchase and will not be auctioned like the vintage boards and surf memorabilia. If you are in the area, you should definitely stop by as this is an event I look forward to going to every other year they hold it as an attendee.

I was asked a few months ago to create two special pieces for The Wyland Gallery here on Oahu that would be an exclusive release in very limited sizes. My normal limited edition giclees come in editions of 100 with 10 additional Hand Highlighted Artist Proofs. These new editions exclusive to The Wyland Gallery are only edition sizes of 25 with 5 hand highlighted Artist Proofs!

I created the first one with Waikiki in mind and the beauty of the summer surf season in Town. I named this piece "Waikiki Surf Girl"
I then went on to create a piece that really says North Shore, so I used the iconic Waimea Church Temple in the background of a nice little barrel. This piece is named "Waimea Shorebreak"

Aloha and Happy Monday!

Wow! What a weekend! 2 shows with the Wyland Galleries here on Oahu. On Saturday I was with the Wyland Gallery up near my home in Haleiwa and Sunday I was with the Wyland Gallery in Waikiki on Lewers St. Both shows were fantastic! I am always so happy to share my new art with new and old fans alike and between the two days I was able to spend time and talk to so many people and share my love of surf art, the ocean, living green and Hawai'i! Thank you all so much for coming out and if you were not able to make it to either of the shows, here is a little sampling of some of the original art that I brought.
Now time to get ready for Haleiwa Arts Festival this coming up weekend!

Heather Brown Donates Artwork to Two Kids Raising Money for College with a Clever Idea

Aloha!

About six months ago I received an email from two kids from Seattle, Washington asking if I would make some art for them for their Shave Ice business. Well, I generally sift through about 200 emails a day with many requests to create logos, tee shirt designs, etc and with this one being from two kids 3000 miles away, I didn't really take it too seriously and responded to them but had to decline. The next morning I awoke to a thank you email from them that was so sweet and sincere that I anded the torch over to my manager Chris and told him to make it work for them. Well months later this is the "little" Shave Ice Business they have come up with to raise money for college as well as help give back to their community.
Koa and Ava Wright possess the qualities that we all strive for as adults and they don't even have drivers licences yet. I am so proud that I could help them and help them help their community.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! Happy 4th!
We just returned about a week ago from a 2 week Northern California tour to visit some of my great accounts and galleries up in the areas and do some signings and small shows. The trip was fantastic and we travelled through about 3 seasons in 14 days! Here are some pictures of some of the off times of the trip. If you have not been, I really suggest going to Northern CA, Tahoe, Yosemite, San Francisco, Sausalito, Santa CRuz, Carmel, and many more stops we hit were all so beautiful and the people are all so warm hearted, friendly and helpful. I hope to go back soon for some bigger shows!

I just released on my website a new Linocut print that I created for the 2011 Greenroom Festival in Yokohama Japan called "Turquoise Waters"
This is an excerpt from a recent interview about "Turquoise Waters"

“Turqouise Waters” is a new linocut from May 2011. When I was asked to be a featured artist at the 2011 Greenroom Festival in Yokohama Japan, I immediately thought of bringing the beautiful warm waters of Hawai’I to the people in Japan that have endured through so much in the past months.

There are about 20 left in the edition of 40 and I have some framed in really cool reclaimed wood frames that are built here at my studio (all of the wood is from old North Shore homes that have been taken down in the past)

Greenroom Festival 2011

Aloha!

Wow, some time has passed since I last posted. Things have been pretty busy, I just returned from Japan where we were for a week for the 2011 Greenroom Surf Art Music Festival in Yokohama Japan. This is the fourth time that I have attended the Greenroom Festival and I love to go back each year to check out the great artists from around the world, cool movies, fun music and best of all, sharing fun times with great old friends and tons of new ones that I meet each visit.
I was originally supposed to be in Japan for the second anniversary of the Heather Brown Gallery in Tokyo on March 27, but due to the events on March 11, we had figured that it was not the best time for me to be going to Japan for an art show so the decision was made to cancel. I felt so horrible cancelling for that week that I really wanted to make sure that I could continue to show my support to the people of Japan, so I released an original each week for donations to the recovery effort as well as many other donations for auctions , etc to help out but I still felt a bit empty as i wanted to have the personal connections with the people. When the time to make the choice of whether or not to go to Japan for the 2011 Greenroom Festival came up, I was positive that I would go, I missed the people of Japan so much, my friends, fans, collectors and everyone else that we seem to meet on each trip, it was time. Well we went out and flew into Haneda Airport and were greeted by the warmest friendliest most excited faces one could ever imagine, and that continued every minute of the rest of the week.
I am so lucky to have the greatest girls ever to work at my gallery in Tokyo and without the help of Rie, Yuko and Toyo I could never have pulled off such a huge feat. Big mahalo's to the girls and if you are in Tokyo, go in and tell them how great they are doing!
The show itself was a huge success with all of my originals selling out within the first few hours on the first day! I was so thrilled that everyone felt the love and aloha that i put into every piece for this very special event. The next few days were filled with heart touching meetings, lots of laughs and tons of smiles on the strong faces of the Japanese people. For 3 days, everyone could push the pause button on the devastation and news to enjoy time with each other. The best compliment i have ever received ever ever ever, was from the many people who had told me that times were so tough recently, with the deaths, the fears, the continued earthquakes, lack of news..... but when they would take a minute to look at my art they could bring their smiles back, their laughter, their life, even for just a quick moment. I am truly touched. I love you all and you all make me smile everyday of my life when i think about how lucky i am that people not only in Japan but all over the world have an interest in my art and that to some of you my happiness can come out of the picture and make you feel the same happiness on a daily basis. Smiles can cure all the ails of humanity, i hope i can continue to help and i know you will too!

Blue Magazine "Hope for Japan" Issue

A few weeks ago I was asked to contribute to a special edition of Blue Magazine. Blue Magazine, for those of you who do not know, is the premiere surf magazine in Japan. I was actually honored a few years ago to create the art for one of their covers. You can check them out here: BLUE MAGAZINE

This contribution was for the newest issue of Blue, "Hope for Japan"

I created a new piece of original art for the magazine called "Waves of Aloha" it is a 10"x10" acrylic painting on stretched canvas. I have not released photos of it yet because I was waiting for the magazine to come out. Well I received the magazine yesterday and I have been so filled with hope and joy and positive feelings for the people of Japan since I set eyes on it and looked through at all of the pictures and contributions from such great artists, surfers and musicians. I am so happy to see so many people come together and unify as one to not only help Japan physically or monetarily, but also just to show people the tremendous support that we can have as people on this earth towards our brothers and sisters around the world. As people, we truly can drop our differences and come together to help each other out, lets all try and do this each day!

I am now going to post and sell the original piece of art, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the Japan Red Cross March 11 Disaster Relief Fund. You can find the art on my website and the picture below will connect you directly to it.

Big Mahalo's to everyone that came out to my Show at the Wyland Gallery the other night! For those of you who were not in Hawai'i, we probably had the worst storm I have seen in Waikiki in quite a long time. Thunder, Lightning, Pouring Rain and flooded streets (not the best recipe for an art show night) Even with all of that, the show was a huge success and I was able to meet so may new collectors as well as seeing some great old friends and collectors from the past.

I was asked a couple of weeks ago to donate a simple tee shirt design with a message for the Aloha Art Week Kokua for Japan Event. They only print one tee shirt and will be holding an online exhibition of the tees afterwards with a silent auction and all proceeds going directly to the Japanese Red Cross.

This event is T-shirts exhibition that originally come from Kuroshio, Kochi in Japan.
The 23rd exhibition will be held from beginning of May in Japan, and now it is coming to Hawaii in for the first time!
In this event, about 800 T-shirts that collected design/photograph data from people from Japan, Mongolia, and Hawaii
will hang near by beach.

Seems like it will be a great event, I hope to be able to make it to the one in Waikiki!

I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far! It has been nice up here on the North Shore. We spent most of yesterday on the water then to the yard for some needed yard work into the beautiful sunset.
Today is filled with interviews and photo shoots and luckily it looks like it will be yet another postcard perfect Hawaiian day, there is even a little surf popping up!

I will be having a solo show at They Wyland Gallery in Waikiki on Lewers St on May 2, 2011 from 6pm-10pm. I will be releasing 1 new published giclee and will have many new originals on hand as well as some other new surprises! About a year ago I was experimenting with the Birds and did some "off registration" work with them that I really loved. Chris was asking me to paint some waves in the same style for our house and this is one smaller originals that I completed in this style. I am really stoked on them and hope you all like them too!

First off, thank you so much for the overwhelming response to the original art for the Japan Earthquake/Tsunami relief. Sorry to anyone who was not able to get it, it sold in the first 15 minutes! There will be more, I promise!

The newest High Tide Tees are in for the ladies! There are 2 new designs in a few different colors. I chose my favorite blank tee in the world to print them on and since we finished them, I have been wearing one constantly! What a week! After our own personal recovery from jet lag, we witnessed live on TV real devastation from a country and a people that we hold so close to our hearts. Heartbreaking images from Japan had us in tears through out the night followed by fears of what was coming to our own Islands. Luckily we had very minor effects in the Islands (relatively speaking of course) and personally Chris, the pets and I live on very high ground so personally our safety was not compromised and we obviously had no damage. The last couple of days the news and images of this natural disaster is almost too much to take. I know I have been slack about posting, but we were on our 3 week honeymoon in the Maldives, and the surf was too much fun! We are now back and right back in action, just before I left I finished this edition of silkscreen prints called "Namotu"

Last year Chris and I were fortunate enough to spend a few weeks on Namotu Island in Fiji. We surfed fun waves everyday in warm tropical waters with fish jumping all around and had the best time, not too mention how great the crew on Namotu was too!

I gained so much inspiration from that trip and it came out in many paintings that I have done since. I was also really inspired to create a simple silkscreen image to capture my feeling of the trip, this is what I came up with. I hope you all like it! The edition size is limited to only 50 standard limited edition prints and 8 Hand Highlighted Artist Proof prints. They are also available in 100% reclaimed wooden frames made right here in my studio on the North Shore of Oahu using reclaimed wood from old North Shore beach homes that have been torn down.

Maldives!

As many of you might know or not know, I am currently in the Maldives until March 10 so there will not be much new action on here, unless there are a lot of flat days!
I am getting married tomorrow and the surf has been loads of fun.

Well the time is almost here, in 24 short hours we will be boarding our first of 4 flights to get to The Maldives. Only 23 flying hours to get there and we will be soaking in the sun, surf and ultimate relaxation!

New Framed Original Commission

I had a collector commission a diptych original a bit ago and after he received it he saw the frames that we design and make here at my studio on the North Shore of Oahu out of all reclaimed/recycled materials from old Hawaiian homes. He asked if we could make him a custom frame for it, so we did.... Out of 100% reclaimed materials, wood, paint, most of the fasteners. it came out pretty cool! It is massive, the two originals are both 24"x36" a piece, so the full frame is about 36"x95"!

Hope everyone is having a great weekend so far. We finally got the new Green With Aloha tote bags in! For the newest design I created a Haleiwa piece that I hope you all like!
I also changed the actual bag, we found a company that farms and manufactures in the USA and they made us recycled canvas bags that are so sturdy and made with 100% recycled fibers!

I wanted to write a quick blog to let everyone know that I will be having two shows on Oahu on February 12, 2011.
The first show will be at The Wyland Gallery in Haleiwa from 12-3 pm followed by another show that night at The Wyland Gallery on Lewers St in Waikiki from 6-9 pm.
I have been painting a lot of new pieces since the New Year and will have two new and different collections for each show, so if you are able, you might want to come to both shows!
As well as lot's of new originals, there will also be 4 new published pieces! I hope to see you all there.

North Shore Storms

WOW! What a morning of storms! We were woken up at about 4 am this morning by huge wind gust, lightning, LOUD thunder and pelting rain, rain, rain! Chris and I took advantage to look outside and we captured a few pictures to show you. This weather will make for a huge new collection of originals though! Keep your eyes open for them. The original of "Waikiki" that I posted a few days ago just sold, but I promise there will be more big art coming your way. I will be unveiling 2 new groups of work on February 12, 1 at the Wyland Gallery in Haleiwa from 12-3 pm and the second at the Wyland Gallery in Waikiki from 6-9 pm. I will share more details on those two shows as we get closer.

Aloha and Happy Monday!

I hope everyone had a great weekend and you are ready for the week ahead!

I am always so happy to hear about people discovering my art and enjoying it, I love to hear that it makes people happy because when I paint, that is really my goal. I am so fortunate for every single collector new and old alike, and sometimes, people even send pictures of themselves with their new Heather Brown Art!

I received a cool email this weekend from the great crew at Mu'umu'u Heaven in Kailua informing me of a new collector of my art. His name is Michihiro Ogasawara and he is a professional baseball player from Japan. He is one of the most consistent hitters in the league and during his time at the Hokkaido NipponHam Fighters his nicknames were "Guts (ガッツ)" and "Mr. Full Swing (ミスター・フルスイング)"!

They even sent over a picture of him holding the new original that he purchased. Big Mahalo to Mr. Full Swing and the great gals at Mu'umu'u Heaven!

Aloha from the chilly North Shore! We had our coldest night of the winter so far and it is still really chilly this morning here, perfect painting weather!

I just finished up a few originals and posted them to my website, www.heatherbrownart.com

The big 30"x40" acrylic on canvas is called "Waikiki" and it will be a published piece, meaning that there will be a limited edition of 100 giclees and 10 Artist Proofs made from this original image.

I also just finished 2 originals on sustainable, eco-friendly bamboo skate decks. Here are some pictures.

The last piece with the 6 vintage birds was a commissioned piece for a collector that I just finished and though I would share.
