Weekend Slide by Heather Brown Surf Art now available!

Happy ALOHA Friday everyone!

I am so happy to release my newest Limited Edition on canvas piece, Weekend Slide!
I worked on painting the original for Weekend Slide this winter when we were having a lot of cloudy, rainy and cold days. While these days are hard to motivate, when you would make it down to the beach to get a surf you would find the most beautiful colors everywhere you looked. The wash of colors and how everything just seemed to melt into each other, the constant drips of water from tree branches, gutters, roofs, surfboards. The feeling that the Island was thankful for the abundance of rain.
I started working with canvases just to see how the colors would layer in different ways, using different techniques of wet blending, dry blending, scraping blending and some other homemade secrets. I love the mood and feel of these paint transitions and how it really converges with tropical beach art. Surfing and surf art to me are all about the feeling, and if you surf or love to spend time around the beaches, you know these tones and the feeling very well. To many of us, we obviously LOVE the bright sunny days where everything is postcard perfect, but for us who truly live "Life at Sea Level" we also relish days like these.

Wishing you all a beautiful weekend!
Love each other, Love our Planet and Love all the creatures who we share it with! Aloha!

Pipeline by Kaua'i tropical surf artist Heather Brown

“Although by the calendar it’s wintertime, the water is 75° and so is the air. The temperature only changes about 2° during the year, so unless you have sensitive skin you can’t tell if it’s winter or summer in Hawaii. Hawaii is truly land of an endless summer.” Bruce Brown from The Endless Summer

The Banzai Pipeline is so much to so many people. To many it is the most dangerous wave in the world. To some lucky groms, it is their after school playground. To the pros and up in coming pros it is known as the proving ground. To me it is a place with many faces. Spending years of my life living on the beach at off the wall and rockpiles, I have spent many hours mesmerized by the beauty of the Pacific as it graces the beach on the famous seven mile miracle of the North Shore of Oahu. Flat days diving the reef in the summer, small days sliding into a few lucky ones at Ehukai and Gums, stormy days rolling around int he shore break when nobody is around. And it also happens to be the site of my first date ever with my now husband 10 years ago. Needless to say, its a very special place to many and I always love to paint it. I originally painted this piece of Pipeline, titled Pipeline, in 2007/2008 while living in a small Ohana unit on the beach about 100 yards from this scene.

Mystic Hawai'i by Tropical Surf Artist Heather Brown

Aloha!
I hope that everyone is having a great week! It has been rainy, rainy, rainy here this week, but just a few minutes ago we got a break in the rain and the SUN came out! Of course we went outside to soak it all in and see how lush everything is and it reminded me of this piece Mystic Hawai'i . All this rain is going to make our springtime flora and fauna beautiful!! I have such a deep love for the tropical island lifestyle and every day I am thankful for these beautiful views.

Beach art of Polihale Kaua'i by Heather Brown

Aloha!

I hope you are having a great week so far! It is a bit rainy and cold here on the north shore of Kaua'i thus morning and the whole past week, so my mind has been wandering and it keeps bringing me to those hot and sunny summer days. One of my favorite summer beach destinations is Polihale beach on the west side of Kauai's. Miles of fluffy white sand, beautiful water with every shade of blue imaginable and a fun mellow vibe make this for a favorite beach day or overnight camping adventure.
I painted this original of Polihale for The Bright Side Gallery in Hanapepe Kaua'i.

Offshore Perfection surf art by Heather BrSown

Offshore Perfection is my interpretation of the huge winter time waves paired with perfect offshore wind conditions making for epic big wave surfing on the north shore of Oahu.

Growing up in a family of artists and artisans in Southern California, Heather Brown found her passions in both art and nature at a very early age. Later, working as a boat captain and dive master to put herself through the Bachelors of Fine Arts program at The University of Hawaiʻi gave Heather Brown the perfect vantage point to fill her head with the beautiful imagery of the Hawaiian Islands. Heather Brown honed her artistic skills as a student at the University, focusing primarily on the "lost arts" of intaglio printmaking, silkscreen printing, linocuts, woodcuts, and etchings which explains where her iconic style was born and bred.

Heather Brown has made it her life's work to capture the true essence of the most beautiful beaches, surf breaks, and locales in Hawaiʻi and around the world. She has been coined the "Godmother of Modern Surf Art" by the Los Angeles Times. Heather Brown’s art has become a benchmark in the global surf art market, finding its way into collector’s homes around the world.

Throughout Heather Brown’s career she’s been named "Best Artist In Hawaiʻi" for four consecutive years, and chosen as Rip Curl’s "Artist of the Search" for the past five years now garnering her own clothing line "Heather Brown for Rip Curl." She has created art for The Vans Triple Crown of Surfing, Jack Johnson’s Kōkua Festival, The Surfrider Foundation and many more as well as opening up Heather Brown Galleries in Tokyo, and Osaka Japan. She continues to work with numerous non-profits around the world, always keeping "giving back" extremely close to her heart.

Massive swell hitting North Shore! Listening to the large waves hitting the coast below all night long and everything outside has a healthy layer of sea mist..... One of the many many reasons I LOVE Hawai'i so much!

New Heather Brown Original Surf Art at The Bright Side Gallery Kaua'i, Hawai'i

Happy ALOHA Friday!!

I just dropped off two new original surf art pieces to the Bright Side Gallery in historic Hanapepe town on Kauai's west side.

The first is a special Kaua'i piece inspired by the raw and natural beauty of Polihale Beach on Kauai's west side. This beach art piece shows the solitude of this natural area of coastline flanked on one side by the majestic Napali Coast.

The second piece is a fun surf girl piece with some spring colors, I know we are far from spring, but the weather has been cold, windy and rainy for some time up on the north shore and painting this piece warmed me up!

Heather Brown Modern Cubist Surf Art

Sunday Morning Nostalgia!
In the Barrel was one of the first pieces I painted after graduating UH. I waited for a couple of years before I sold it and had it scanned for print and released. This was right at the point that my cubist nature was getting a bit rounder and more detailed. I've always loved these colors together and the feeling that they invoke. There are a few of the limited edition canvas pieces left and available through the fine galleries worldwide that support my art as well as on my website.
Thanks for your interest in my art and continuing to follow the journey! Have a great day and spread the ALOHA!!

We at Heather Brown Art strive to use as much re-purposed and recycled wood as possible in the building of our frames and fashion them to resemble boat wood.
