2017 Vans Triple Crown of Surfing and Heather Brown Surf Art

"The Cats Out of The Bag! Been keeping this secret for about 18 months already! Stoked to finally announce that I was asked to create the main visual art for the 2017 Vans Triple Crown Of Surfing! I was stoked beyond belief to create the art for the 2008 Women's Triple Crown earlier in my career, so this just stopped me and my tracks to get asked again to do the Men’s event this year! Mahalo Nui Loa Vans for asking me! I am truly honored and humbled! Aloha and Have a great day!" Heather Brown

Heather Brown has been a strong supporter of the Vans Triple Crown, Hawaiian Pro and Billabong Pipe Masters surf events for many years.  Living on the North Shore in Haleiwa, in the middle of the surf community, has inspired Heather to create surf-related art for people and for surf event sponsors.  Her iconic tropical surf art has captivated people for many years, and her unique style of painting surf and shore scenes is distinctly captivating and happy.
One of Heather’s paintings was used for the 2008 Women’s Triple Crown of Surfing official poster:

Heather Brown Releases New Green with Aloha Wave Art Tote Bag

In 2009 my husband Chris and I started Green with Aloha, a line of durable and useable goods meant to help people get away from the normal habits of very common disposable items (mostly plastic). We started with 1 tote bag design and 1 water bottle design. Since 2009 we have made 6 different tote bag designs, 4 water bottles and 3 different re-usable travel coffee mugs.
Well today, I am so HAPPY to unveil our newest tote bag!
The Green With Aloha Wave Tote is here!!
Made of 100% recycled cotton and printed with water based ink in the USA! double sided prints with reinforced straps for years of heavy use. FYI: We are STILL using our first bags from 2009 for all of our grocery and market shopping! A bit stained and washed many many times over the years, but still looking nice and holding up great!
Please abandon the plastic bags, get your self some reusable shopping bags and stay Green with ALOHA!

Surf Girl by Kaua'i Surf Artist Heather Brown

Aloha!
I'm often asked about the first piece of art that I sold. While I honestly can't remember (wish I could) it was so many years ago before I ever thought of pursuing art full time that I never really thought about remembering those details at the time.
While this piece, Surf Girl, was probably after the first 50-75 paintings I sold (sold a ton of my art when I was in Art school on Ebay and to friends) Surf Girl to me will always be the piece that I really think of as one of my first "real" pieces that set me on a track of working as a full time artist. I painted about 10 studies of this piece and it originally started out as an Intaglio print when I was still in school, but this was the final "Surf Girl" that I released as a limited edition giclee and now as a matter print on sugar cane paper as well as a wooden print.
It is always fun and sometimes difficult to look back on my older art as I see so much room for refinement, but then I love the nostalgia and the more cubist feel of them. Not many of my older images remain in my current catalog of available art, but the ones that do, like Surf Girl, have a strong tie to my heart.
Aloha and Mahalo for the years of support and friendship around the world!

Surf Monkeys Surf Art by Heather Brown

Aloha and Happy Monday!
Here is another new Limited Edition (only 25!!) Giclee on deckled edged paper, float mounted and framed, that was just released! This is my favorite one, Surf Monkey's. A few years back Chris, his daughters and myself took a 2 week RV trip in California and on a few rainy and cold coastal days up north we spent the days watercoloring and sketching together. This piece was inspired by one of the sketches I did of us as Monkeys. I had not seen the sketch in years and then we were doing some studio cleaning and found the book full of all of our art from the trip. I painted a new original of it for my last tour this Spring and am stoked to release it as a fine art print. Hope you enjoy! Mahalo nui loa for your continued support and Aloha!

Hawai"i Artist Heather Brown creates main visual for 2017 Odaiba Hawai'i Festival

Aloha Everyone!

Stoked to announce that one of my projects in the studio the winter has finally become public! I created a new piece called Hula Girl for the 2017 Odaiba Hawai'i Festival held just outside Tokyo each year. This is the largest Hawaiian festival in Japan each year showcasing the beauty of Hula, Hawaiian music, art, and of course, great food!
This was my first ever attempt at painting a hula girl. For years i have been concentrating my creative efforts on the beauty of Hawaii art, tropical art, surf art but have always shied away from trying to depict a hula girl I was hesitant because of my fear of doing it wrong. To me, the art of hula, has always had me in absolute awe. From the beauty of the preparation that these beautiful artists go through, the years and years of training, not only on the actual movements but of the history and reasoning, to the storytelling through their movements on stage! This to me was what Hawai'i was when I was a little girl and to me, it still speaks HAWAI'I so loudly to me. I am happy that I finally made the attempt, and I am happy with the piece, I hope you enjoy it as well.

Here is the main visual for the 2017 Odaiba Hawai'i festival.

Hula Girl is now also available as a limited edition giclee on canvas, an open edition matted print on paper as well as a fun UV print on wood panel.

Hawaii tropical artist Heather Brown releases Love and Sakura

Aloha Everyone!

Been a very busy spring so far with one trip to Japan done and 2 more between now and June on the way!
I had a very busy "off season" from shows in my studio working on some really great projects and some new published originals.

The first published piece from my last Japan tour is called Love and Sakura. My first gallery in Japan, the Heather Brown Surf Art Gallery in Daikanyama, Tokyo, opened on my birthday March 27, 2009. During that trip to Japan, I was first introduced the beauty of Sakura. I lucked out on that trip and the day after I landed, the Sakura were in full bloom in the Tokyo! For those of you who do not know much about Sakura (cherry blossoms) and the importance of them in Japan, I encourage you to do some research on it, as the history of it is beautiful. The full blossom days do not last long, so it is hard to really schedule a trip to see them, so in the past 8 years, I have never been able to see them like that again, and I go out each year for the Heather Brown Gallery anniversary, but usually miss them by a few days or more.
This year, we had planned a short tour in Osaka and were very hopeful to get to see the beauty of the Sakura right outside of The Heather Brown Hawaii Art Gallery in Osaka. And you know what?? We got to see them! It is so nice when the blooms happen, it is almost like the entire Country knows and people all congregate in the parks and it becomes an impromptu festival. So much fun and so absolutely beautiful!
For this tour, I was asked to paint a new piece depicting the beauty of the Sakura. In the past I have painted a few sakura pieces. One with Sakura trees along a beautiful west side beach. One with the sakura fronting the ever majestic Mt Fuji. And now Love and Sakura. there is nothing in life more beautiful than LOVE, except a day with your love under the sakura blooms in a peaceful rowboat meandering the day away.

Love and Sakura has been released as a limited edition giclee on canvas (signed and numbered), an open edition matted print on sugarcane paper and a UV print on a wood panel that gives each piece its own uniqueness.

Mahalo as always for all of your support and encouragement for my art over the years! You all make me smile bigger each day! Aloha nui loa!
